closet, which adjoins the bad room of
Mrs. Ryan, on the second floor of tho
house. It la made Into the closet wall,
together with other drawers, and was,
suppoaed to he successfully hidden,,
proof against the ravages ot burglars.-
This box was considered *o secure that
Mrs. Ryan did not hesitate to deposit <
all of her Jewelry and money then.

caption of a negro servant girl. Mr.
Ryan had gone down town to hla offles
about 7:30 o'clock Tuesday morning,
ami shortly after 8 o'clock hla, little
girl went to school. About 10 o’clock
Mrs. Ryan wus driven down town In
her brougham by her negro driver and
spent some time In shopping.
Mrs. Rvnn returned home about 11:11) I
o'clock, and during Ihe afternoon made
preparations to go calling. After dress
ing. she entered the cloeet In her room
and opened the Jewel box. Intending to ■
don some of her diamonds She h(id I
worn none nf the Jewels In the morning.
As she opened the secret box ahe was ’
horrified to discover that It bad been
robbed of her moet valued gems.
