Atlanta Office Has
Orders to Enlist
Men.
Circulate have been received author-
Islng the Atlanta recruiting station of
the United Statea army to secure suit
able negro recruits to fill vacancies
caused by the recent dlemlaaal of three
negro companies of the Twenty-fifth
Infantry by President Roosevelt and
branch atatlona will be established at
other towns In Georgia ae toon as pos
sible for this purpose.
The companies In the Ninth and
Tenth cavalry regiments (colored) are
alao to be recruited to 10 per cent over
and above the maximum enlistment.

the recruiting of white soldier* (or the

John J. Llpop, first lieutenant of the
artillery corps, now In charge of the
Atlanta recruiting station, will send
out experienced men to secure recruits
as soon as his staff can be Increased,
one station will be established at
Gainesville.

tion to order promptly at 8 o'clock, and
prayer was offered by Homer L. Higgs,
of Tennessee. Resolutions were adopt,
ed thanking Dr. L. G. Broughton for
the use of the Baptist tabernacle and
Hnn. Tom Watson for hla address.
Future of Speculators.
Campbell Russell wee called on for a
speech. He said that If the Farmers'
Union remained ardent and steadfast,
would meet with renewed faith and
courage all setbacks, the time was not
far distant when they would control
the markets of the country.
When that day arrives the bucket
shop men and unlawful speculators will
have to do one of three things: 1. Make
an honest living. !. Go lo th* poor
house. I. Go to the penitentiary.”
This was greeted with tremendous
applause, and Mr. Russell waa heartily
commended for hla address.
A large number of resolutions came
from the committee on resolutions.

The force of the explosion cloned the
shaft for a considerable distance and
the rescue party la now working

over the robbery. • Her husband Is at
present absent from the city, being on
