Our IVIeDd^t-P. Hayden & Co., as will bo
seen from their advertisement iu PhIoj'j pa
per,hare not only a flno and large «pt o'
goods qn fend, bnt oro determiner! to Ujsi'^o
of the came on reasonable terms. Our rea
ders in the county and city, who are about to
lay In their fall ami winter supplies, would do
well to give these gentlemen a call. The la
dle? particularly wiH be delighted Ht paying
a visit to this establishment
sued
tat Voters JUaember,
That when poor worthy, wen were Melting
employmentas watchmen,-'under aur Know
Nothing city government, and couldn't get
it, they appointed u fret man <f color, wbo
had been promised an offioe, if bo would
riete.ibe Know Nothing ticket. This free
colored nidii was uevor allowed to voto lie-
fore, tt jras left for the Kdow Nothing
party to promise Mir man an office, and get
Ids first rote.
Let Voters Remember,
That the people’s money has been taken to
pay the salary of tbit free colored man, as
an offiee holdor; and that the Know Noth-
ing party has done it.
Let Voters Remember,
That the Know Nothing party fined a re*
epeotable white mechanic, scren dollarr and
fifty i-eiih on tho oath of a free man of col
or, and that the money haB not been refund
ed ; nnd that there is no other reason for
this aot of outrageous couduct, than that
the mechanic is a Democrat,.
Let Votors Remember,
That Mr. Korshaw, the man who was fined
bn the oatli of Me free man of color, is a
hard-working, honest mechanic, with no
other means of supporting a largo family,
than that of the labor of bis own bands.—
is it right to take seven dollars’ and fijly
the oath of a fret colored man, and then
not pay it book to him, because lie happens
to be n Democrat? Was the like ever
known ? Is not that circumstance, itself,
amply sufficient to defeat any party? Will
the mechanics and working men of Atlanta
support any party, whose leaders would be
guilty of such conduct?
Let Voters Remember,
That upon tho “report” of ono of tho
Know Nothing candidates for the Legisla
ture, another poor man cauio rerv near
being ruined and boggared, IIo cauio very
near being dismissed from employment by
which he gets breul fur his wife and liulo
children. These two cases has improved
the people with the idea that tho Know
Nothing party intends to retain its power
in this County, by punishing all who come
within the ruuge of their powor, nnd dare
to oppose them. Think of these things,
mechanics and working men. A blow has
been struck at your freedom and political
rights. Lot those who struck tho blow be
made to feel that you have rights, and ilare
maintain them at tho ballot box.
Let Voters Remember
That had we time and space, wo might go
on enumerating the misdemeanors oC the
Know Nothing party of this County. A
whole newspaper would scarcely hold them.
" The half has not been told.” It would
be a great misfortuno for this party agniu
to triumph in Fulton County. Let it not
bo so.
Let every man wbo is tired of tbo joke
of oppression, and wants to see tho County
and city redeemed—vote the Democratic
ticket in full
Vote for
JOSEP11 E. BROWN,
L. J. GARTRELL,
J. I. WHITAKER,
a, WESTMORELAND
Do this—and all will bo right.
LET VOTERS REMEMBER,
jfhat the Know Nothing party alone, are
responsible for tbo high County lax soc pay.
That party aliened it—and it is two nun-
drad and forty per cent on our Stato tax.
Let Voters Remember,
That the Know Nothing party alone, ars ruts of bis bard earnings—that much bread
responsible for the enormous aud ruinous out of the months of his little childron—on
eitytaxes whioh we ore oompelled to pay,
nnder their government of. city affairs.—
Let as remember that where we pay eighty
cento to the State, we pay six dollars and
fifty cents to tha city of Atlanta.
Let Voters Remember,
That the Know Nothing party drive popu.
lation and wealth from Atlanta, in oonse*
qusnoo of tho high taxes-which they im
pose upon us.
Let Voters Remember,
That many of out best oitisens are seeking
frpmM outside the oity limits, in order to
evade oity taxes, which if not speedily re.
duoed, will ruin our oity.
Let Voters Remember,
That the Know Nothing party wasted four-
Ittn thousand dollars of the people’s money
in attempting to build a jail—that the thing
won't hold a prisoner, and does not aniwor
the purpose—the money is gone, and the
County hoe nothing to show for it, except
it be a pile of brick and mortar-: A ten*
penny nail is all a prisoner wants to make
a hole through the wall.
/ Let Voters Remember,
That at least one dollar per day is paid out
of bar taxes, to support a watchman at a
jail that oost fourteen thousand dollars.—
That it eoeto the County one dollar per day
to guard the prisoners iu a jail that oost
fourteen thousand dollars I The Amorican
party is rseponsible for all this wasteful ex
travagance. Tho remedy is at the ballot
box—let us apply it.
Let Voters Remember,
That among tho larieh and wasteful expen
ditures of money, by the Know Nothing
party of tbie County, may bo found a con.
siderablo item for horse and buggy biro.—
The Judge* hired them to ride in themsolver,
and then charged the County with the ex*
penie. This they hare acknowledge over
their own signatures.
Let Voters Remember,
That onr Know Nothing County authorities
are on the very eve of buying a poor lot of
land, at the enormous price of four (hout.
and dollars, when a hotter lot, as we tro
credibly informed, bss been offerod to them
for nine hundred dollars. See tho difference
fellowsoitisene—the,four thousand dollar
lot belongs to a Know Nothing, and the
nine hundred dollar lot is owned by a Dem
ocrat. Shame on such partiality, and
shame on euch wasteful extravagance, when
onr taxes are already so ruinously high.
Let Voters Remember
That after this large tom of money is spent
for land on wbioh to orcct a poor houso—
end moral thousand dollars more for tho
ereetian of buildings, (and we fear they
will be as usolose as the jail) a new uffico to
be filled by a Know Nothing is to be creat
ed. An orerseer of tho Poor Houso, at an
annual salary of at looet eight hundred
or a thousand dollars, is to be appointed ;
and we understand Jesse Cook, Esq., a
very worthy citir.en, is spoken of for the
appointment. Rut are the pooplo of this
County prepared to see their taxee raised
any higher to support any body in office.—
Are they prepared to seo any new offices
created t
Let Voters Remember,
That tbs American party in this County,
hare distinctly said through its organ, that
Atlanta neods no spooial legislation. Of
coarse, if that be tho' views of the party,
Calhoun and Ororby would not ask for any.
Besides, thsir party will be in the minority
in tbs Legislature, aud they will be unable
to do any thing, even if they felt disposed
to make the effort. Therefore, all wbo feel
the elightoet interest in tbo wolfaro and
prosperity of Atlanta, ehould.be particular
not to vote for Calhoun and Orerby, J. I.
Whitaker and J, G. Westmoreland, are the
regular Democratic candidates for the Leg*
Mature. They are tho proper men to
•end te Millcdgoville at Representatives of
Fulton. Theee two gentlemen are fully
and thoroughly identified with the party
that will have a large majority in the Leg*
ieiaturo. Every body can see Me great ad
vantage of lending Democratic members to
the Legislature,- and every body, who is
not purposely blind, can see bow unfortu
nate ltJvould be to our local interest*, for
the Kni* Nothing tioket to be eieoted —
We sincerely hope that voters will see their
interests, and support tbe{Domocratietieket,
at altfiaxards. It will bo a moat unfortu*
note circumstance, for the prosperity of
Atlanta, if. by some accident, the Know
Nothing ticket should succeed. Let it not
