President Hoover Not
So Dry After AH
I’rohlhition and reform leaders who
have visited Mr. Hoover in Florida are
returning to Washington with wet
feet- Mr- Hoover thinks tire Mississip
pi valley is entirely too wet and Is
very anxious to do some dam work up
and down that stream, lint these re
form leaders failed to Interest him
with their recommendations to dry
up other valleys. Mr. Hoover was very
careful in the presidential race not to
say much about the prohibition law
All la* ever said was that it was a
“noble experiment” for scientific ad
justment Possibly those young men
over at Harvard will assist Uncle An
dy Mellon with this As bad as it was
during the Coolidge udmiuistruthin.
it will lie imi 'h wetter during the Hoo
ver administration inspite of the anti-
Smith Democrats. We are not oppos
ed to Mr. Hoover, not at all, for lu* is
too much like A1 Smith, the man we
voted for and the man whom Georgia
voted for. We're glad of two things,
that lie is president and that we didn't
vote for him-
Clinton S. Carnes Makes
$200,000.00 Annually
Mr Carnes stole a million dollars
of Hie laird's money and must suffer
for five years as secretary In our
state prison at Milledgeville. We kpow
of a nigger that was sent to the rock
pile for fifteen years in Newton coun
ty for stealing a hundred and twenty
dollars worth of cheap jewelry. We
read of a widowed mother not ipng
since who was sent to a state prison
for life for selling a quart of home
brew- Funny, ain't it. how JUSTICE
will prevail. Now, when the governor
of Yorfh Carolina said to the govern
or of South Carolina, whatever it was
they were talking about, it impressed
you very much. They are now trying
to bring Georgia into Unit conversa
tion, for President Tucker of the
North Carolina convention says to
President Christie of the Georgia Con
vention —You compromising tender
hearted, sympathetic Home hoard
members get out and give the rank
and file an opportunity to check up
on that two hundred thousand dollar
salary of brother Carnes. Well you’ve
heard about our famous Georgia mule,
healthy, fat and sassy, but uncertain
as to what lie’s going to do or when
lie's going to do it. So is Mr- Chris
tie about resigning in car load lots and
he won’t lie rushed hy North Carolina
or them other organizations referred
to in pulling out of tlint mud hole.
Carolina intimates that if those hoard
members don't resign, it will lie a long
time before they accumulate another
million dollars- Personally, we don't
see no objections to the board resign
ing in car load lots, not that they
ain’t good men, but when parliament
takes a vote of confidence, it menus
swap corners.
Is This True?
What one does s|>eaks louder ilutn
what lie says. If so. Conyers will have
to not quickly to prove to Milstead,
that she appreciates her internrbun
relations; for Milstead St. is already
impassable.
If we are reliably informed. Mil
stead offered to pave to the city lim
its once, if Conyers would pave her
street to the del sit, giving Milstead a
paved road to Conyers. For some tea
son tills was not done- Milstead is
not asking for a paved road, but we
do feel like she is entitled to a road
that is navigable out to the highway,
Under the present legislation tlie only
road is through Conyers. We are too
close together in too many ways to
try to live independently of each other,
so come on folks and let's he neighbors.

Why This Indifference
In the Life of Rockdale?
A gold medal was donated and offer
ed for the man. woman, boy or girl
voted hy Rockdale county iieopic as
baling accomplished tin* most for Con
yers or Kockdaic county during the
year 1028 and the only conditions were
that at least one hundred bonnfidc
votes lie cast. We may lie selfish and
not inclined to heap honors upon any
body, or we may lie overly conscien
tious, not desiring to discriminate, lie
that as It may, not a single person vot
ed for anybody. Why. we could carry
a ix-titinn around to cul the salary of
every preacher In the county and get
at least one iierson to sign it. Now,
why is all this confusion and indiffer
ence in the temple. Something is evi
dently missing. It may lie that the
Muster Himself is missing from our
inner lives and that there are no
plans lnld out whereby we might per
sue an even and co-o|s*rative course in
our persuit of happiness, prosperity
and brotherly love. A glad hand ex
tended opens I lie door In sunshine and
gladness. We know a popular tune
Hint lias these words, "I don’t love no
body and no body cures for me” and it
seems that all of us know these words
too well. Come on Rockdale people
and blow your born or it will not be
blown. You are as good as anybody
else, even if you are afraid to say so
Our next prize will be for a "born blow
ing” champion-

That Citizens’
Advisory Committee
Ilear Mr- Editor;
Your suggestion in last week's issue
of a Citizens Advisory Committee,” it
seems to me, ought to strike a respoii
slve cord in Conyers hearts. If, as you
say, "there would he less friction, few
er complaints and much greater re
-ults; school problems solved, new in
dustries secured and financial dlffi
cullies solved,” then by ull means, let
us have tlie committee. Personally, 1
have no program for the committee hut
believe that in counsel there is
strength- Should there Is- friction in
our local government —city government
or school government, or city govern
ment and school government, then ev
ery good citizeu should welcome it s
removal by satisfactory adjustments
