her old home in Waco, Texas, where

with home folks and okl friends.

daughter, Miss Elizabeth Almand,
teacher in the Camilla public schools.

ed over the week-end for her sou, Har
old Mayfield and young lady friend,

Every time we think about Edd
( owan’s RADIO ROMANCE, we won
der more and more how lie manages
to remain single. May be that he will
announce his engagement during the
showing of this play at the school au
ditorium Saturday, March 9. Come on
Edd and do it and you may increase
the admission to 50e for children and
a dollar for all husbands, with wives
free.
Mr. Thomas Lynch, our genial elec
tric light lineman and all round serv
ice man has severed his connection
with the Conyers office of the Geor
gia Power Cos., effective March list.
His many Conyers and Lithonia
friends regret exceedingly the loss of
this splendid man and citizen. Mr.
Lynch has endeared himself to all
with whom he came in contact for
everybody appreciated his honest and
efficient endeavors to render an ec
ceptable service. We do not know his
plans for the future, but our wish is,
that lie may be lead back to this com
munity for a further and continuation
of friend and citizenship.
The West Stage Equipment Cos., of
Macon, has our school faculty on the
run this week, endeavoring to raise
$360.00 for a roller curtain. AA'e don’t
know which they need worse, a Gym
nasium or a curtain. Like it is we have
to go to Covington to play our own
games so as to be in their gym for
protection against winter weather. We
played Logansville down there last
night. Kind of Covington to let us
use their gym. W'e will let them sit
behind our curtain when we get it.
Mrs. Molly McCollum enjtertained
her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Plunkett, of Decatur, last
Thursday.

from Atlanta, where he went for a
three weeks’ treatment at the Baptist
hospital and appears to be in perfect

week-end at a house party given by
Airs. Ellington, at Oxford.
Air. B. A. Guill, supervisor of con
struction for the Georgia railroad,
superintendent of the Baptist Sunday
school at Camak, Ga., slipped in on
us the other morning long before day
light. Air. Guill is a semaphore tech
nologist and his mission was an early
operation on our semaphore. Alost
people don't have no trouble with their
semaphore, neither did people once
have appendicitis or boll weevil trou
ble. But our semaphore wouldn’t
stand at right angles so as to indi
cate our innermost thoughts. While
here Air. Guill discovered that he was
kin to our publisher, Air. W. E. Atkin
son, who came from down that way.
Those people around Camak like our
writings so well, they made up $1.50
and sent it up for a year’s subscription
so as to have our paper in their pub
lic library. We thank them for their
complimentary remarks, especially on
our quilting, log rolling and corn
shucking, article. AVe’re going to
write ere long about the old fashioned
“horse swapper” and don’t propose to
lie about it or in it. even if we could
it wouldn’t be necessary.
Airs. E. C. AlcDowell, Social Circle,
writes: Please find enclosed check
for $1.50 for the Rockdale Record. We
enjoyed last week's paper so much and
will look forward each week for it. It
is like getting a letter from home.
Wishing you continued success. Thank
you, Airs. AlcDowell, glad you like it.
Your brother, Alajor Ed. L. Almand,
over at Alonroe, also gets a big kick
out of it. Ed.
Air. Harry G. AleElvany spent tire
week-end at Bostwiek with her moth
er, Airs. R. D. Grenn and at Athens
with her daughter, Alildred, who is a
senior at Georgia Normal. Dr. Mc-
E'lvany spent the two days around the
depot waiting for her return. Some
people don’t know how to entertain
themselves except with their own
wives.
Aliss Alary Hays entertained over
the week-end for her niece, Aliss Eth
el Hays, of Hayston.
CKDALE RECORD, CONYERS, GEORGIA
Aliss Evelyn AVillingham, now with
Alurphy M. Holloway, judge of the
Atlanta police court, entertained over
the week-end for her friend, Aliss Alar
garet Phagan, of the Underwood Type
writer Cos., in Atlanta. Funny thing
how everybody trains their daughters
up to work these days, with never a
thought about marriage. AVe used to
train them up for marriage with never
a thought of work. If a girl gets mar
ried these days, why all they do is
rent a room together and this is why
two can live cheaper than one. If
you want a real wife, we suggest that
you marry a maid or a housekeeper
and so specify it in your request for a
license.
Mr. and Airs. \A T . 11. Tucker enter
tained their distinguished son, Prof.
Quigg Tucker, of Rome, Ga„ over the
week-end. Quigg has just qualified
for the finals in the 7tli district bas
ketball tournament.

ed over the week-end for their daugh
ter, Airs. Carlton Sharp and children,
of Atlanta.
Col. and Airs'”.!. Henry McCalla,
spent the week-end in Tennill, Ga.,
guests of her mother, Airs. C. AA'.
Smith.
Air. and Airs. J. AA'. Hollingsworth
entertained over the week-end for their
son, Mr. E. L. Hollingsworth, of At
lanta.
Air. and Airs. A. P. Owens, entertain
ed over the week-end Air. and Airs.
C. E. Floyd, Air. and Airs. T. A. Patil
lo and Air. and Airs. C. J. AlcLendon.
of Atlanta.
Air. and Airs. J. AV. AlcClung spent
the week-end in Atlanta, guests of
their son and family, Air. and Airs.
Alvin AlcClung.

days last week with her sister and
family, Air. and Airs. J. C. Harvill,
both of whom are down sick, at their
home in Alansfield.

home in Conyers over the week-end af
ter several days’ visit with her daugh

Easter Comes Cold and
Windy Again Mar. 31
Riverside Golf club should give an
Easter egg hunt this year, on Satur
day, March 30th, for us boys—-using
Golf balls as eggs. This is rather a
bright idea, but something ought to be
instituted whereby we old men could
have some recreation in our second
childhood. Course, some of us are so
big, especially in the middle, that we
could not hunt anything on the ground
much, but a golf ball would make vis
bend where nothing else would. It
would be funny to see Bob Gailey and
Foster Young trying to keep their eye
on a little nest egg until they got close
enough to pick it up.
Riverside now has a beautiful little
club house, arranged for a spacious
dining hall, reception parlors, rest
rooms and terraces —you’ll notice we
said arranged for. There’s plenty room
around the house for all of these. This
house is-well built, with veranda on
both sides, nicely painted white and
electrically lighted and we are very
proud of it. Mercer AA'. Hull, says lie
made a forty over there the other day.
Did not say on which green it was.
The Rockdale Record force will chal
lenge any banker to a game of golf or
to lend them some money any day
any bank wants to do either.
New Business Opened
by Mrs. Langford
The Langford 5 and 10c Store will
bo opened by Airs. Naomi Langford in
the Almand building on Commerce
street, opposite the American Theatre,
Friday, Alarch 1.
Airs. Langford is well and favorably
known throughout this, her home town
and county and it goes without saying
that she will have the backing and
support of her great host of friends
throughout this section. Airs. Lang
ford has filled her counters and
shelves with new, snappy and useful
articles direct from Bros., Jer
sey City, and invites you to come in
and look over her varied assortment of
new and useful articles. This is but
the fore-runner of several new enter
prises booked for Conyers following
our several years of bumper crops and
general prosperity. Conyers has pass
ed through its seven years famine and
is now on the road to greater prosper
ity and achievements. If 1929 proves
to be a good crop year, we will fill ev
ery business house in the community
with renewed life, energy and climb to
new heights of community successes.
Yellow River Ain't
AVhat it Used to Be
Yellow river is one of the older
streams and in keeping with age, has
begun lo bulge out in the middle some
what like Roland Huff and Ross Dav
is. AA'ater is already up to the wagon
bridge floor at Alinon. The Macon
branch of the Georgia railroad fell
prey to high water at Brown station
this morning at eight o'clock, disrupt
ing train service out of Macon. Geor
gia is routing lots of water via Macon
this week and the Ocinulgee is up town
again. AA’here It.m <‘is up with ihe
Oconee down at Dublin is another sto
ry that will depend upon Doctor I’lin
non and Dr. AleElvany to tell. These
two doctors left this morning for a
week’s fishing down there with Prof.
R. 11. Fo.v. Can you imagine anybody
fishing in South Georgia this week. AA’e
don't want to make fun of these two
boys, but if their fishing judgment is
good, we are a good editor. Now that's
plain and rough talk, but what would
you think about us if you saw us sit
ting out in a cotton pat h fishing in
Yellow river this week. Exactly, and
that’s what we thing about Chet and
Harry.

J An Omission Corrected
In tlie recent history of Conyers
, chapter U. 1). C. in the list of names
of Presidents, one of the most el'fi
-1 cient of those serving in that capacity
was omitted.
Miss Mary Ntnnsell was elected Nov.
2S, 1911, following Airs. C. B. Hud
son. and was su needed by Mrs. J. R.
Irwin, Nov., 1912. It was under Aliss
Stillwell's administration that the erec
tion of a Confederate monument was
launched, she served with much dig
nity and to the entire satisfaction of
the chapter. The monument was un
veiled April 36. 1913. Hon. AV. F. Mc-
Daniel as master of ceremonies, Airs.
.1. it. Irwin, president; Miss Clyde Alc-
Daniel, now Airs. B. B. Jackson, Char
lotte, N. C., unveiled t lie monument
in the presence of an immense crowd.
Ordinary Thos. 11. Marston, issued
six marriage licenses during lasi week,
an average of one a day, which is
contrtulu'tory to the ground hog pre
diction of a delayed spring. AVlien peo

young jieople, among them being Miss
Birdie llailey, of Conyers, to Ralph
E. Moon, of Porterdale and Miss Mu
lena AA'iHlams to Miles Brownlee, both
of Rockdale county. AA’e promised to
write up the first man who objected
to the increased marriage license ft*,?,
which we caused to lie raised from
$2.25 to $3.50. So far, nobody has
kicked on the price of their bride. AA'e
would like to see a bride that ain’t
worth $3.50, anyway.
Winter Proper Time to
Clip Horses and Mules
Horses and mules may be clipped
almost any time In winter, provided
the owner uses blankets after clip
ping and properly houses the clipped
animal. If the foregoing conditions
are not complied with, better wait un
til the weather is warm and dry be
fore clipping. Clipped horses and
mules when exposed to cold winds or
cold rain are very liable to contract
pneumonia or pleurisy or both and
quite often distemper, strangles ov in
fluenza. Early spring clipping fol
lowed by exposure to cold winds
while being snipped in open stock cars
brings out many cases of colds, ship
ping fever, Influenza or pneumonia.
