VOL. 11. Subscription SI.SU The Daughters of Wisdom How beaut ions is tliy to,in. O Wis dom! How fair thy daughters! Two of Iby daughters am much desired. Tin' third, though far the fairest, seems less besought. The wise man puts in the mouth of wisdom the words •'Riches and honor are with me: Yea, durable riches and righteousness." The first, to most men seems the fairest. The second to many, while the third is the choice of the few. Many of the sons of men may happily possess all three; while all may possess the last two. And who is Madam Wisdom? The fear of tlie l.ord is wisdom," and the writer would sing her praises. Since the days of our failin' Adam some men have thought to find profit in wrong doing, hut wrong doing is the daugh ter of the old serpent, who is the dad ay of liars. We all want to see tiie coming of prosperity. Are we willing to he coun seled by wisdom? The same wise man wrote "Righteousness .exalteth a na tion," and he might as truthfully have writteu ‘Svroing doing degradeth a na tion." Yea, I say. wrong doing de graded! a people. The masses of men are misled. They think to forgot God and ignore his laws and yet find riches and honor, caring little for righteousness. It may be in some eases they do find riches in this way. hut rarely honor and never righteousness. It is a vain tiling to think there is gain in lew- Icssncss. When the citizenry of any community turns to lawlessness for a livelihood every tiling dear to the soul of man shrinks into sickliness, if not death. The sense of honor dies. The pride of home dies. The love of wife and children is sacrificed to the rafaeious man of greed. Property val ues die, farm lands become voluelen. No self respecting man wants to live in a community dominated by a law less people. Lawlessness cheapens life, blights the happiness of womanhood, worecks the future of childhood and youth, destroys the manhood of men. And wlmt can he expected when lead ing citizens patronize lawlessness? They lint become parties to the degra dation of their fellow men ;parties to the breakdown of property values. Fla., stopped over with Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Joiner over 1 lie week-end enroutj to her new home at New Orleans, where Mr. Southern is business man ager of the Southern Business college. Thus do they lend themselves to the speeding of tile downward trend and make it harder for those who love their fellowmen to accomplish any thing. Yes. the daughters of wisdom are durable riches and honor and righteousness. And what is righteous ness? Righteousness comes of fear ing God and seeking to keep his com mandments. She is the most beautiful of the beautiful, fair beyond descrip tion. She gives full measure and full weight. She sweareth. to her own hurt and ehangetli not. She walks in truth and chastity. She closes the place of business on Saturday night and keeps the Sabbath day holy. She neither kills nor desires to kill, neither com mits adultery nor desires to do so. Neither ties nor steals nor profanes .lie name of God. O Wisdom, how beautiful thou art! How beautiful they daughters, the fairest of whom is righteousness. “Wisdom erietli without; she uttereth her voice in the streets," shall we not heed ? J. R. JORDAN ' CONY KKS, (il<OH(iiA.
