The National Carbon
Man Chokes Up a Bit
My attention has Just been called
to an item appearing in the current
issue of Tlie Rockdale Record con
cerning my return to your fair city.
When I first read your statement
that “For a number of years Mr. Huff
has been living in Atlanta, where he
accumulated a wife and family and
a dozen or so mustache," I laughed
and thought it written in fun. As I
read on, however, and saw that you
were actually trying to compare my
luxurious growth (of .bristling mus
tache with that little patch of downy
fuzz that you were nurturing when 1
was a kid in Sunday school, I be
came convinced that you were in ear
nest.
Since you are still a young man, in
fact if not in fiction, I just couldn’t
believe that your eyesight was affect
ed to such a degree. Still there had
to he some cause for this wide dis
crepancy between actual and reported
facts. 1 set out to locate this cause,
and have succeeded.
I have been informed hy mutual
friends that since you first began
chasing elusive golf balls around the
Riverside Golf course you have been
gradually losing your ability to add
the simplest sums, or to even estimate
figures or quantities in anything like
an accurate manner. My advice would
he for you to give up the game before
it is too late, because selling tickets re
quires tire changing of money and the
ability to accurately compute rates
and weights is essential for the proper
handling of shipping.
Another thing that puzzled me was
the fact that Mercer Wallis rated
front page space while the best that
I could make was page five. However,
I have since been informed that tills
was because of the fact that there
are eight members in his family and
only five in mine. Conyers, like the
rest of the world, is quick to recognize
and pay homage to the successful man.
In behalf of myself and family I
thank the Record and the good people
of Conyers for the warm welcome that
has heeu accorded us. We hope that
we may prove ourselves worthy of
your love and esteem.
Sincerely yours,
LEWIS C. HUFF.
NOTE: Mr. Huff back fires some
what like our Ford used to when it
had too much carbon. —Ed.

Plant a Good
Staple Cotton
We have just received a car load of the famous Mis
sissippi Pi Delta and Pineland, No. 4 Cotton Seed.
This cotton has been grown in Rockdale and adjoin
ing counties lor the past two years and has given
perfect satisfaction from a stand point of produc
tion, lint yield and staple. From 1250 to 1300 pounds
of dry seed cotton you can get 500 pounds of lint.
This cotton won for Rockdale county in the state con
test at the state college of agriculture last year, the
first prize for growing the best staple cotton of any
county in the state.
This cotton staples inch to 1 1-16 inch and
always brings a higher price than the short
er varieties. Because of its excellent quality
of staple.
We are very anxious that the farmers grov
a good staple cotton in the territory in wb ; gh
we buy cotton. This saves us going west to
, buy our cotton and thereby enables us to pay
the farmer a higher price for his cotton in
the local market.
'these seed are put up in 100 pound hags and
are vvorlh $5.50 per bag, which is what these
seed actually cost us in car load lots and can
be secured from W. O. Mann, our cotton buy
er, at Conyers, Georgia. “ v
