DOWNS CHAPMAN BARBER SHOP ft ~ 5 Getting there ahead of the trouble During the afternoon of March 17, 1928, an alarm bell rang in a telephone test station* 1 his meant that a puncture had been made in the airtight sheath of a busy inter-city cable. The men on duty knew that the" injury was somewhere within 50 miles. Highly developed:locating devices were instantly applied and in sixty-ftve minutes the trouble spot was located. By 7:15 in the evening, before the break in the sheath had affected service on any of the 248 pairs of wires in the cable, the repairs had been made without one conversation being inter rupted. This special alarm system is one of the many mechanical and electrical wonders developed by Bell System engineers^to guard telephone con versations. Automatic electrical locating de vices, constant testing, of all switchboard apparatus and circuits—these are some of the ceaseless efforts that so effectively reduced interruptions to service on Bell lines in 1928. . < There is no standing .still .‘in the Bell System* ■*, SOUTHERN BELL TELEPHONE '< and Telegraph Company a Incorporated • Rev. JACOBS Proprietor ARE ALL TIRES ABOUT ALIKE? r ■ ; • P VERY once in a while you hear a man say off-hand: “All tires are “ about alike*” This is worse than a careless statement; in total effect it is the costliest error in tire-buying* The plain truth is—and it cannot be made too emphatic—all tires are NOT alike! The lealding manufacturers of motor cars know it—so they use more Goodyear Tires for original equipment than any other kind. The cost-vary owners of the great truck fleets of industry know it —so in simple economy they use more Goodyear Tires than any other kind* The purchasing experts of the urban, interurban and transconti nental bus lines know it—so for safe and profitable operation they use more Goodyear Tires than any other kind*. The rank and file of informed motor car owners throughout the world know it—so “more people ride on Goodyear Tires than on any other kind*” £ NO, EMPHATICALLY NO,"all tires are NOT alike. Don’t be talked into thinkiug they are. Remember the facts about Good year. Get a Goodyear Tire and you get the best, and since it costs you little if any more than any other, you get the greatest tire value money can buy.
