My Dade County Hills
Dedicated by the author to his brother, B G.Bible
, and his sister Mis Mary b ble Forester
My Dade County Hills, to which I flee.
In times of deep distress, there may I be,
Beneath the oak or pine or hanging vine,
Worshing thee. My Hade CouDty Hills,
Roaring torrents and picturesque rills.
The memory of which fills me wxh joy and mirth,
The garden of Eden for me, the Paradise of the earth,
Ther^|n On the the shade, beneath beneath the hills I lie,
velvety mosses the sky.
Over these hills I’ve hunted many a night,
Following the hounds, till broad day light,
Thru wood and meadow green, by beast and bird unseen,
Now as my hair grows gray, it makes me young and gay,
Thrills my heart with delight, Oh! wondrous sight,
As these hills I visualize, all aglow at sunrise,
With their many mysteries of light and dark,
To v, hxh in my dreams I so often hark.
My Dade County Hills, whether in Dight or day,
My heart with rapthre thrills as l reca>! their display.
Glory of sun, moon and stars, of Jupiter, Venus and Mars,
Of valleys deep and broad, glorious hills of God,
Where I once wondered, would kneel and fervently pray,
That I might do something worth while, some day,
And never stray from the straight and narrow way.
My Dade Couuty Hills which gave me so many thrills,
With rugged cliffs for frills and babbling, sparkling rills,
Among which my childhood days were spent,
In my life, proving an important event,
The lessons they taught me were indelibly impressed,
And by them, in my declining years, I’m blessed,
For having had such companions in my youth,
For they ever breath love .faith, hope and truth,
And I long to go back to the hills of my childhood,
Be a child again and roam the hills Ionee trod,
Kneel among them, and give thanks to the Good God,
And there at last be buried beneath their sod.
