Old Landmark Torn Away
To make ro’iyni for his new
store recently constructed on
the north side of Public Square,
our hustling citizen, I H.Wheel¬
er, had removed an historic
land mark of post-bellum days-
The old building of hewn
timber, built soon after the de¬
parture of the Red Man for his
home beyond the Mississippi,
for manv years served the
purpose of post office for the
valley and surrounding moun¬
tain sections, in the days when
the mail was carried on horse¬
back from Chattanooga to Fort
Payne and towns farther
south.
