widow, was shopping in Trenton
one day last Yveek, ted her mule

mule was deprived of his dinner

Tribute To William J. Townsend
Not only a unique but a
great character was the subject
of this sketch, who early in
November past closed up his
busy and very useful career
here, to enter as I believe, a
grander and more glourous one
beyond.
He was born some 63 years
ago on the same farm near
Wildwood, Ga., where he spent
his life an# from which he
passed to his reward, and in
the old family graveyard on its
highest hill top his poor worn,
exhausted body was laid to
rest. A most devoted wife,
two loving sisters, two noble
sons, good and faithful nephews
and neices, and a great host of
sincere friends walk with truly

suffering humanity. He was
one of the most loyal of friends
and though a partisan in both
politics a nd religion yet his soul

or malice against those who
disagreed with him.

Who pays in advance at the
birth of each year;
Who lavs down his money and
offers it gladly,
And casts around the office a
halo of cheer,
Who never says, ‘‘Stop it, I
cannot afford it”,
Or, ‘‘Am getting more papers
than I can read”,
But always says, ‘‘Send it, I
read it and like it.
And can’t do without it—Its
just what I need”,
^ ow welcome he is . when he

How he makes our heart throb;
How he makes our eyes dance;
We outwardly thank him—
We inwardly bless him—
The steady subscriber who
