The State of Dade N ws, notwith

mr<*d sensible one-gallused citizen
or a fellow who wants to waste
your ink simply because he has
paid up. Well, if he’s paid up
thats all right and very comme.:li
able. I havu’t paid hut I’m go:;.:
to: because if we of Dade wouju
have a live paper, the only consti
tuents of which are brains, energy
and money, we must furnish the
latter, the other, if we hnvn’t it
will come. But, lets first give
home talent the same showing that
we would haw to guarantee to
foreign,
I Now my advice is, since you
| seem to publish advice instead of
! taking it to go ahead and continue
to remind us of our duty to our
selves and our county w hich means
the support of our county paper.
You will notice that the man who
wont take his countv paper and
pay tor it is continually growling
that “thar aint nothin' in it.’’ i
think such a fellow nearly as mean
as some good (?) church members
you know who never pay a dollar
to the church and are always cuss
ing because the preacher aiut first
class.
Your touching appeal for a tomb
to mark the grave of the young
confederate Charley Henson, fills
me with admiration; because per
haps a brother of mine, who was
then in his teens, but was a mem
ber of the 11th Alabama Regiment
from the first was carried from the
bloody field of Gettysburg to fill
an unknown, unmarked grave. So
here is a dollar for the noble boys
tomb, and when I pay up my sub
scription I’il gi'-e another. Let
every true Southerner, every good
citizen of Dade come forward with
their dollar to erect such a monu
ment to this brave boy as will dem
onstrate that we ot Dade can and
do show our appreciation of valor
without national aid or encourage
ment.
Mr. Pickle, the affable salesman
of one of our leading stores thinks
that the Baptist foot washing soft
ened bis uucklee. Mr. Andy Swof
ford don’t think so.
Mr. Nichols, our fat and funny
agent continues to take on flesh
while Mack the barber handles the
frieght and Gil Johnson puts in 13
days a week on the public road.

Wiite again W. W. No you
need not bother about "‘paying up

der of the nineteenth century. Ed.
t\ Monument,
Immediately after the appear
ance in our last issue of Uie arti
cle in regard to the condition of
the grave of Charley Henson on
Hand Mountain steps were at once
taken to get up a contribution suf
ficient to erect a suitable stone.
An appeal of this nature should
not go unheeded by those who
cherish the memories of those who
wore the grey and fell in defence
of the South. Contributions are
already coming in and by a little
exertion on our part, with a small
contribution from those who ought
to feel an interest, a modest
monument at least wiil mark the
grave of the boy soldier who fell
j in defence of the right.
B. P. Majors will receive contri
butions a list of which will be pub-’
lishod in our next issue.
