master General Gresham is soon to he ap
pointed Uni tod States circuit judge to succeed
Judge Drummond, and that First Assistant
Hatton is to succeed Gresham os head of the
postoHicc department, is revived, with the ad
dition that Chief Clerk Walker is to succeed
Hatton as first assistant. When tho matter
was mentioned to Hatton by the Star repor
ter, he ssid ho knew nothing about it, and
that he Was not worrying himself about the
department. He said he would not ???turn hit
hand over" to remain in-the department; that
he had about ???had enough of it." Gresham
dismissed the matter by saying that ha knew
nothing of it. An inti malo friend of Gresham
from Indiana said to tho reporter to-day:
???I have not talked with him on the subject
for sonic weeks, and therefore don't know his
mind now, but, unless he has changed his
mind, I am satisfied ho would not accept the
circuit judgeship. When apjminLud jeottmastcT
general he had mode an arrangement to prac
tice lnw with McDonald, and now that Mc
Donald is out of politics I look for the law firm
of Gresham A McDonald. I know that Gresh
am was sick and tired of thedistrict judgeship.
He was glad to get out of it, and f don't think
he would go back en the bench for the circuit
judgeship."
