Candy pullings nrc a nuisance, but I sup-
yoso wc have to have them. I have now or*
rived at that age and framo of mind that I
submit to anything???anything to please the
children. And so when they got their moth*
er???* content the matter was all arranged and
the company invited without consulting me.
Thero waa a spare room in tho house and as I
had some writing to do 1 adjourned myself
there to have a quiet time. While I was ru

quility the young folks began to gather
and before I knew it the youug ladies were
ushered into my room as a reception room,
and 1 was kindly informcd>hot I would have
to vacate. With a sigh of resignation I re

Arp soys she wishes she bad a room???a room
of her own. Hut she can???t have one. She
never will have???onc, for children and grand

Our first night away from Warrenton was
spent et the beautiful home of Mr. G. A. Par
ham. The sun waa just tipping with crimson
the edges of the western forest* when wc
drove up to the front gate. We spied tho go-

in one of the most handsomely furnished par
lors that can be seen in a country residence.
Soon after there came n regular o!d-fashion,
country supper with smoking meats, light
pufi'y bi'cufu and a routine of other good
things which combine to make a farmer???s life
the happiest in the world. Mr. Parham is in
what tho world calls "easy circumstances,???
Jle owns a large and productive farm and
every year that jiaitcs over his head adds
bis. wealth. ' Ho uses his money with
coming hack, Tho dog and the cat follow
her???no she will never bnvos room to ncrself.
Hut 1 found good company at the candy
pulling and had a good time anyhow, for 1 do

lavish hand in beautifying his-home and sur
rounding it with comforts. One thin

knobs and dipper handles aro sticky and tlioy

gvery pleasure has its drawback. A fter every
dinner the dishes ere to bo washed. After
???very repose the bed has to be made up. We
ride and drivo and then tho horso lias to bo put
up and fed. Wo douce to sweet music aud
have fo pay the fiddler. We go on a picnic or
an excursion and eoino home tired and weary.

But still it I* right, for it Is nature. Wo live

afternoon and night with them and wero never
more hospitably entertained in our iifo. Their
residence is the homo of refinement and com
