Mr. John Malone, an old and re-! Solicitor General of Middle Circuit
speeded citizen, died at his home in
this city on last Thursday, at 6
o’clock, p. m. He was stricken
with the prevailing influenza just
one week before his death, lie had
always enjoyed good health, but

is in gloom to-night over the death

was born. His long life was spent
in Jones and Baldwin, among the
people he loved. In his'early man
hood lie was a drug clerk in the
store of Dr. Little in this city, Af
terwards lie engaged in farming in
Jones county, where he remained
until about ten years ago, when he
moved to this city. At the break,
ing out of the war lie was a pros
perous farmer and was in basy cir
cumstances. He continued farming
for some years after the war, but
found the business unremunerative
and unsatisfaetoiy under the chan
ged condition of labor, and he gave
up his almost life-long occupation,
and moved to this city where
he has since been engaged in clerk
ing. For some years be was with
Messrs. Walker and Barnes. At the
time of his death lie was clerking
for Mr. W. H. Armstrong.
Mr. Malone was a kind-hearted
man—possessing those warm and
generous impulses that strengthen
the bonds of friendship. The child
ren loved him and called him “uncle
Jack.’’ When they heard he was
sick they were greatly distressed
and many of them called at his res
idence to see him. In liis delirum

ren about apples and candy in it is
kind and loving way. The love the
children had for him was a tender
nil unselfish endorsement of bis
character
The funeral took place from the
family residence at 3 o’clock Friday
afternoon—Rev. D. McQueen of the
Presbyterian church and Rey. J. D.
Chapman of the Baptist church, of
ficiating. The pall-bearers were
Messrs. W. H. Armstong, H. E. Hen
drix, E. S. Vinson, L. N. Coates,
J. B. Pounds and T. J. Fairfield.
Mr. Malone's family consists of
a wife, two daughters and a grand
daughter, who are overwhelmed
with grief at their irreparable loss.
They have the warm sympathy of
our citizens in their sad affliction.

few days that his condition was re
garded as desperate. c

of Hon. J. Caraker, of Milledgeville
—and a son by a previous wife.
As solicitor general of the Middle
circuit, perhaps no man in this sec
tion of the State was more exten
sively or more favorably known,
nml as a member of the law firm of
Rogers & Potter, was in command
of a flourishing practice.
He was a consistent member of
the Christian church here, and a
man of strict integrity, strong re
ligious convictions and high intelli
gence, as well as a most valuable
and influential citizen.
Special to the Macon Telegraph.
Hon. Oscar H. Rogers, solicitor-
general of the middle circuit and a
prominent lawyer of Sandersville, died
at the Gilmore House last night. He
had been seriously ill but, a day or
two with bronchitis. His sudden
demise will be a great, surprise to his
many friends and acquaintances and
our county and state lose a valuable
officer and citizen, and the bar a
prominent attorney. Mr. Rogers was
born in this county, and was about
39 years old. Soon utter bis majority
he wag elected county treasurer,
which position lie filled for two terms.
Duriug his service as treasurer, Mr.
Rogers studied law in the office of
Evans & Hines. Was admitted to the
bar and associated iu copartnership
with Hon. J. K. Hines until the elec
tion of Judge Hines to the bench.
While associated with the firm of
Huies li Rogers. Mr. Itogerssucceeded
Hon. R. L. Gamble, the present judge,
who was then solicitor, which posi
tion he held at the time of his death,
serving his third term.
Mr. Rogers, at the timeof his dfeath,
was a member of the law firm of
Rogers & Potter. He also terved one
term as mayor of Sandersville. He
was also local attorney tortile Central
railway and the Wrightsville and
Tennille railroad, of which latter road
lie was a director. Mr. Rogers has
figured prominently in the politics of
the county and state since his first
entry into public life and was im
mensely popular with all classes of
people and universally esteemed. He
Imd been thrice married, first to a
Miss Rodgers of this county; next to
a lady of Monroe county, whose
maiden name is not remembered and
lastly to a Miss Caraker of Milledge
ville. He leaves a wife and ouly one
chilli, the issue of his first marriage,
and a host of relatives and friends to
mourn his untimely demise. He was
a member of the Christian church.

San Antonio. Texas, where he has
