Mr. Fraley returned from a trip
through Florida Monday and gave
his guests a cordial welcome to the

Mm Bell, left Tuesday for New York,
where he will purchase his spring
and summer goods.
Mr. Bell for a long number of
year* has made semi-annual trips to
New York, where he has a large
acquaintance among the wholesale
merchants of the merchandise he
carries and sells in his store here.
DR. J. E. KIDD ATTENDS MEET-
INC OF STATE COMMITTEE
Dr. J. E. Kidd, attended a meeting
of the State Democratic Executive
Committee held in Atlanta last Sat
urday. Dr. Kidd is a member of the
State Committee from the 10th Con
gressional District.
The Committee endorsed Senator
Walter F. George, as a candidate for
the Democratic nomination for Presi
dent.

Greater Show For Amusement
The Middle Georgia Fnir Associa
tion has set the date for holding the
annual fair in the fity the wee kcom-
m< ncing the first Monday in October.
A contract has been made with the
Heath’s Greater Shows for the week.
This company is one of the largest
of its kind traveling. It carries twen
ty-five railroad cars, with eight
rides, twelve shows, and fifty
more concessions. *

Florida, Profesor W. T. Smalley of
the English Department, Mercer Uni-
versity, and Professor S. J. Garret,
Registrar, Mercer University, were
visitors at the Georgia State Col
lege for Women on Friday, January
20ih. Dr. Phelps and Professor
Roemer have just recently assited
in a survey of Mercer University. Dr.
Phelps acting as Chairman of the
Committee. While in Milledgeville,
they look over the entire college
plant, ind they were very compli
mentary in their statements regard
ing the fine buildings and splendid
equipment, mentioning in particular
the fact that the -buildings ar*
rood repair, neat and clean, the
rounds are well cared for, and that
n air of prosperity prevails on
ampus. They did not have an
ortunity to speak to the student
ody or to see many of the students
which is the best they have at the
•liege.

Year
Milledgeville merchants are mak
ing their plans to supply the tobacco
growers of the county in uteir first
undertaking to make Baldwin a to
bacco center.
The fertilizer houses have ordered
the first car load of Tobacco ferti
lizer for immediate shipment- This
fertilizer is expected to arrive in the
city within a few days and delivery
will be made to more than thirty
growers.
Tobacco plant bed netting and
other necessary articles for the grow
ing of the crop have also been
dered. The Merchants are co-operat
ing in the effort to grow tobacco
and are giving the farmers their
enthusiastic support

Mrs. Fannie Green is convalesent
from an attack of mumps.
Mr. and Mr*. C. B. Kemp visited
relatives in Deepstep Sunday.
Mrs. Charlie Lavender is back at
her home in Hardwick, after spend
ing several day* in the Hospital in
Milledgeville. She is doing fine.
Married January 18th, at the
Methodist Parsonage in Hardwick;
Mr. Luther Norris and Miss Hattie
Birdsong. Mr. and Mrs. Norris are
making their home in Washington
county.
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Switzer and
children spent several day.w last week
in Atlanta-, on account of the death
of Mr. Switzer’s sister.
The sermon by Dr. Dempsey Sun
day night at Hardwick Methodist
church was soul stiring. Evangelism
was the theme and the congregation
responded in earnest attention. Dr.
Dempsey is one of our great preach
ers of North, Ga. His presence with
with us is always an inspiration.
There were two vacancies in
Board of Trustees which uas filled by
iMeeting the following: Messers T.
C. Couch and W. E. Smith. Two
Stewards were added as followers:
Mrs. C. F. Coxwell and Mr. Leroy
There will be an all day singing at
Salem church next Sunday. Singers
from all the surrounding country will
take part. It will be a great oc
casion. Dinner will be served on the
ground.

Mr. Charles G. Conn was named
as a member of Board of Stewards
of the Milledgeville Methodist church
at the Quarterly Conference held
Slinday afternoon.
Mr. Conn was nominated by the
pastor. Rev. J. F. Yarbrough, to fill
the vancancy caused by the resigna
tion of Mr. Chos. M. Davis, who
cently moved from this city to Chat-
tanooga.
Mr. Conn is the youngest son of
the late Capt. W. T. Conn, and has
beer, connected with the Methodist
church since his early boyhood.
DYNAMITE BLAST INJURIES
WASHINGTON COUNTY FARMER
Mr. B. R. Tanner, prominent farm
er of Washington county was serious
ly injured in a dynamite blast last
Monday.
Mr. Tanner was blasting stumps on
his farm, when a charge unexpected
ly went off, injuring his face and
arms. It was thought that his sight
would be lost but latest reports from
his physicians indicate that his sight
will be restored although his eyes
wcr e seriously injured.
