Tuesday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. K. G. McMillan, President of the
After a brief business session, the
meeting was turned over to Mrs. Toni
Reese, chairman of the program com
mittee, who talked for a few minutes
on Americanism and National De
fense.
Asking the question, "What is
Americanism?” Mrs. Reese stated:
Americanism is an unfailing love of
country; loyalty to its institutions
and ideals; eagerness to defend it
against all enemies; individual allegi
ance to the flag and a desire to se
cure the blessings of liberty to our
selves and posterity. This was a
definition laid down by the com
manders-in-chief of the leading vet
erans organization meeting in Wash
ington last year.
The Legion Auxiliary has adopte*
as the major objective for this year
the development of an intelligent
understanding and practical indivi
dual allegiance to the flag. Each
post is asked to present a flag and
flag pole to each school in the com
munity.
Mrs. C. B. McCullar spoke most
interestingly of the “Spirit of ’76.”
After the program delicious refresh
ments were served.
