multitude of friends and
poignant loss in the hgih places of his
profession. As u praticing physician,
the founder of Allen's Invalid Home,
as its head for more than forty
ytais Dr. Allen had n profound in
fluence on the hearts and minds of
a great number of people. The
; races of his personality, the richnefs
•■f his character, the warmth of hi-
fr« ndsl.ip. were as a shining light.
He held a rare place in the esteem
«»f pople, not alone in Milledgcville
but throughout the nation. He s«w
a neighbor in every man, from the I Am<
highest to the lowliest walks of Kfe. —
He walked with those of great prom- j Suited
inence and “never lost the common
touch." Truly nothing human was
alien to him and he had the good
imarar tan’s heart. He never passed
l*y on the other side.
To enumerate the good works of
Dr. Allen -would require nuwA
pages. He had an understanding of
tht human needs .and it was his very
nature to minister to those who were
afflicted in body and mind.
Dr. Allen established the first hos
pital for the treatment of the ner
vous and mentally affFcted. He saw
tne great need of a home where
these people could lie eared for und
every patient who came under his
rare found in him a true friend and
n kind benefactor. The hospital' is
today the large t individually owned
hospital in the United States. The
fruit of h's labors have been great
and the r.st that has finally come to
him is richly deserved.
Dr. Allen, the man, will he missed
in Mlkdgcvlle. He had a frendly
greeting for every one who met him
as he transacted business daily in
the city. Where ever he traveled he
always won warm and ardi-nt friends
by his personality.
In the words of the noly writ as
used by Rev. J. F. Yarbrough as u
text when he paid the final tribute
to Dr. Allen, "u Prince and good
