f Mrs F. W. Ferguson
Under the spreading ooks at the
John Stiles’ plantation was gathered
a foodly company on Saturday, Aug.
30th.
The occasion was ‘.he annual home
coming of the Stiles family and they
came: The J. C. Stiles from Ten-
nessee with Miss Lillian Stiles, the
Allen Stiles from Louisville. Go;
the Clifford stiles from Alabama, to
aid the Walter Greens and Mr-. Rob
ert Harper in giving the b?st of good
cheer to more than one hundred
The queen of the f r «*t was the
mother, whose hospitality and sweet
spirit is the inspiration which brings
back these widely-scattered children
to make this happy day. The host,
John B. Stiles is famous all over the
«t»*6 for the quantity and quality of
his barbecue.
Old frends to greet, old jokes to
tell made the moments fly until the
call came for dinner. Tables load
ed with good things—crisp brown
barbecue, golden sauce, Brunswick
stew, salad, pickles, barrels of ice
cold lemonade, ice cream, cake and
cigars.
If this was a sample of what the
Tennessee Hotel company furnished
their guests, it is small wonder that
they have prospered.
Among those present were: tho
Harpers. Cooks, Humphries, Wat
sons, My ricks, Huberts, Moores,
Jones, Yarbroughs, Fergusons, Ed
wards, Kings from Macon, the Mas
seys, Twilley* and Rutlands.
We rode awny in the cool of the
day wishing all good things for our
hosts and for the young generation
who provided this feast for their
friends and their friends’ friends.
