Suffering from a brain ailment
hat had no connection with a wound
ustained in a feudal battle of half a
century ago which took several
ores of lives, he was carried from
s home in Logan, W. Va.. to a
Kimore Hospital, where he suc-

peld. known as “Devil Anse.” died

“Cap” Hatfield was a large, pow-
rful man of a picturesque type. He

Fishermen at Saint Halo in Can
ada are trying to get some form of
official recognition for “Turk,” a
large Newfoundland dog.
During the last voyage of the
Gris Neb,” a seaman, was washed
overboard. No one raw him go, ex
cept Turk, who leaped over the side
and caught the sailor’s clothes in
his mouth. Someone saw the dog
leap over and set up a cry. A boat
wa* put out and rescued Turk as was
abou; to sink. He had a piece of
cloth in his mouth, but the sailor
had disappeared.

In 1922 Jacob Slagh. of Zeeland,
Mich., wa* helping Iris brother-in-
law, Koer.c Vanden Bosch, harvest
bay when he lost his pocketbook with
$35 in cash inside it. Then and
there Jacob decided it didn’t pay to
help a brother-in-law.
But last week Vanden Bosch,
while cultivating corn in the rame
field, spied the purse so worn it fell
apart when handled. It was care
fully kept together and taken to its
owner, who turned it over to the
United States treasury department
for redemption of the currency it
contained.
