“Verily I say unto you, where
soever this gospel shall be preached
throughout the whole world, this al
so that she hath done shall be spoken
of for a memorial of her” Mark
illustrated by go-pel practice.
Gospel preaching declares what “He
has done"—, was buried,
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto
you the gor 11 which I preached un
to you. For I delivered unto you
fir-t of all that which 1 received,
how that Christ died (or
coiding to the -cripturcs; and that
He was buried, and that He ro?e
again the third day according to the
scriptures.” Gospel practice is de
clared in what “she has done"—tes-|dom
tified her utmost faith in, supreme
fallible word of God hav
e been fulfilhd. No less than
330 prophecies in the Old Testament
referring to the Me-siah’s coming and
earthly life have already found their
fulfilment. The apostle Peter says
we- “do well” to take heed unto the
word of prophecy, as unto a lamp
that shineth in a dark place.”

That which was precious to her goes with the odour of the action—the
to death with Him, just as Abra- abiding sweetness of a personal af-
ham the friend of God, offered up fecticn for the Lord Jesus Christ,
his I aac, his only son. That is real I Thrice did our Lord ask Peter the
gospel practice: since He has not I question, “Lovest thou Me?” Is He
withheld His all in sacrifice for us, | not asking us the same?

Such practice drew forth His com

recommended it. What war there in 1
the deed that so moved Him, that I
so appealed to Him. that so pleased J
Him? Three things are char. j
First. She expressed publicly her
faith. “And being in Bethany in j
the house of S ! mon the leper, as,
He ? at at meat, there canu* a woman {
having an alabaster box of ointment
tf spikenard very precious; and she;
break the box, and poured it on His
head." He interpreted the act .saying
“Sh: hath done what she could: she
ii come aforehar.d to anoint My body
to the burying." She believed Him
to be the leng promised Messiah;
she be’ieved his word.- that he was to
suffer death at the hands of the re
ligious rulers of His dny; she be
lieved that His ?uffcring was for the
purpose of accomplishing the re
demption of mankind. A11 this was
the outcome cf her oft “sitting at
His feet, and listening to His words.”
In fact, she seems to have been the
only one among them all who really
did believe He was to die for the
of the people, and ri-e again
from the dead. Consequently, she
was not found at the empty sepul
chre. She had done her embalming
beforehand, believing Him to be "the
resurrection and the life,” “confirm
ed by the resurrection of her brother
Lazarus.
Second, She declared openly her
love. He who knew all hearts, said,
“Sh? hath wrought a good work
Me. ’ It was love’s insight and ap
preciation, bccau e of love's recogni
tion of love’s gift cf Himself. “Who
loved me. and gave Himself up
me.” “We love Him. because He first
loved us.”
Third. She unhesitatingly
wrought »: good work. It was
elusive *\>n Me." He filled the vis
it n and the henrt. He occupied the
heart s affections. He has become
everything to her. It wa- complete

It was her very best. Surely it was
