NEGRO ESCAPES FROM
COUNTY JAIL WEDNESDAY!
Walter Nixon, the negro arrested;
the first part of the week, charged j
with burglarizing the store of Mr. I
B^b Weaver last Saturday night, j
escaped from the county jail Wed
nesday morning by slipping through j
a narrow crack.
His escape was soon discovered by
Sheriff Hnynie, who with the assis-1
tance of Special Officer Lawrence!
and Chief-of-police Broome took up j
his trail. Dogs and the help of two !
men from the State Farm were
secured and the fleeing negro was
caught eight or ten miles south-west
of the city, near the residence of Mr.
W. A. Cook. He was brought back
to Uic city and placed in the jail
again for safe keeping until the spec
ial term of Superior Court in May.
