CADETS LOSE TO
NAVY PLEBES

The G. M. C. football team, which
played the Nava! Academy Plebea
at Annapolis. Maryland, returned to
the city Monday night after an en-
jo>able trip. The itinerary included
Washington. Richmond Recnoke and
the Shenandoah Valley. The party
which numbered forty-five persons
left Milledgeivlle by automobile on
Thursday morning October 3rd at
five o'clock, had breakfast in Au
gusta. lunch at the Sir Walter Ho
tel in Raleigh and spent Thursday
night at the Palatial Hotel Thomas
Jefferson in Richmond, after the
team took a short workout at South
Hill. Virginia. Friday morning the
party left for Washington where
they had lunch and thence to An
napolis where the team worked ou*
cn the Naval Academy field. The
team was quartered in Bancroft Hall,
said to be the largest dormitory in
the world. The other members of the
party divided, some spending the
night at Baltimore, and some ir.
Washington.
The game which took place at 1
o'clock Saturday afternoon, was
won by the Plebes by the score of
37 to 2. Oakes. Kenmore. Carellas
Cantrell and Cline, played hard for
the cadets but were overpowered
by the heavier and more experienc
ed Middy team. After the game the
players and other members of the
party witnessed the second half of
the game between the Navy and
Mercer, which the Middies woi
the score of 27 to 0. For Mercer the
playirg of Allan Blodworth, form
er G M. C. player was the out
standing feature of the game.

party spent Sunday night at the
Patrick Henry Hotel in RoanokU,
Virginia after visiting. Lexington,
Staunton and other interesting
points on the way.
Besides thlrty-fide dadets the

Batchelor, Coach Gunnells, Coach
Kennedy, Major and Mrs. Ben
Bryan, Major and Mrs. Tho*. H.
Rente, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Amall,
Mr and Mrs. Arthur Smith, Mr.
Frank Riley, Mr. Carl Massey and
Mr. Sam Terry.
Among the former Milledgeville
people who witnessed the game were
Messrs. Will Barron, Ben Stembridge
and Robert Harper.
BALDWIN COUNTY ALUMNAE
INVITED TO ATTEND BARBECUE
AT G. 8. C. W. ON OCT 14TR
On Monday. October 14th, the
sixth district G E. A. conference
will be held at G S. C. W. This
meeting will bring to Milledgeville
some of our outstanding educators
in the state as well as the teachers
from the sixth district.
A large proportion of these teach
ers are graduates of G. S. C. W.
The college will entertain the visi
tors at a barbecue at one o’clock.
The Baldwin county Alumnae are In
vited and urged to attend the barbe
cue and afterwards a short Alum
nae meeting in the biology lecture
room at 1:30.

HEAD OF ORPHANS HOME
TO ADDRESS MASONS
Mr. H. Daugherty, superintendent
of the Masonic Home in Macon, will
speak at the regular meeting of
Benevolent Lodge No 3 on next
Tuesday evening.
All Masons are urged to attend
and hear of the fine work being done
at the orphanage.
MU ALBEIT H. AMOSS DIES
AT LOCAL HOSPITAL
Mr. Albert Herman Amoss, a well
known and respected citizen of the
Dcvereaux community, died at the
Scott Hospital on last Thursday af
ter a weeks illness.
Funeral services were held at the
family residence on Saturday af
ternoon and interment was in the
Bass cemetery near Dcvereaux, Rev.
Carlton Dykes, pastor of the Deve-
reaux Baptist church, officiating.
Mr. Amon is survived by his
wife, daughters. Mis. J. H. Marsh-
burn, Norman, Oklahoma; Mrs. T.
M. Thompson, Dcvereaux; one son.
Mr. H. C Amass, of Valdosta.
Mr. Amos was a prominent farm
er of Hancock county and was well
known here. He was a member of
the Baptist church and prominent
in the work of the church.

The occasion is Columbus Day
which was declared an official holi
day by the last session of the Geor
gia legislature.

Mr. O. C Miller, president and
manager, said the store had shown
a rapid growth in business and the
management was most pleased and

U. D. C. WILL MEET FRIDAY
The Robert E. Lee Chapter. U. D
C. will meet on Friday aftemcon at
4 o'clock at the home of Mrs. David
Ferguson. Mrs. R. B. Moore will be
joint hostess.
Dr. Francis Daniel. Lieutenant
Governor of the Sixth District of
Georgia Kiwarns, will make his
official visit to the Milledgeville
club on Thursday.
The dub will meet at the usual
hour at the Baptist church today in
stead of next Thursday. Mr. W. H.
Amall will give an account of the
visit of G. M. C. to Annapolis.
Further discussion of the state
convention to be held in Savannah
on October 17. 18, 19th will be held.
The Milledgeville club expects to
send a large delegation which
include President Andrews. Dr. Dai
iel. Rev. Horace Smith, Col. Erwin
Sibley and others.
LEGION AUXILIARY TO HAVE
BENEFIT BRIDGE ON FRIDAY.
On Friday at the home of Mrs.
Richard B ini on, the American Le
gion Auxiliary will have a benefit
bridge, the party beginning at 3 JR.
Plans are being made to make this
one of the most attxctive parties in
recent weeks. In addition to bridge
many other games will be played,
to permit those who do not play
bridge to attend. Prizes will be given
at each table and a number of grand
prizes will be given. Delicious re
freshments will be served during the
Afternoon.
The committee in charge are Mrs.
Richard Blnlon, Mrs. George Echols,
Mrs. George Bell and Mrs. D. F.
Montgomery. Tables may be reserv
ed by calling either of these ladies.
