G. M. C. DEFEATS SOUTH
GEORGIA COLLEGE 7 TO 6
(lord; Fought Contest Keeps G.
M. C. Junior College Record Un
defeated.
G. M. C. blazed path of fine foot
ball accomplishment last Friday
when they defeated the fav-
South Geoipia Junior College
of Douglas, by a score of 7 to
The game was played under
ficial lights, which was a handicap
to the local team, due to the haze
created by a fog. The Douglas
was primed for victory aifter tieing
the powerful South Georgia Teach
ers the week before in Statesboro,
and a big crowd was on hand to see
the job done.
After receiving the kick-off. the
Douglas team blocked a kick to get
in scoring position and on penalties
inflicted on the cadets finally socred
on a pass after being held for downs
twice on the G. M. C. five yard line.
The cadet line showed fine form in
smeering the Dowlas team twice un
der the shadow of their goal.
After keeping the ball in the
Dougins territory the second half
Kcnmcre scored early in the fourth
quarter on an o.f-tackle sprint
Finfrork was sent in and converted
the point with a nice drop kick. The
cadets held the lead for the rest of
the game.
Capt. Oakes. Caralles. Kenmore
and Cline were outstanding while
the entire team played a jam-up
game. G. M. C. gained nine first
,*^pwns to two for Douglas.
Ccnt'n Batchelor and the team re
turned Saturday and the coach was
Mghlv pleased with the showing the
team made.

GOLF LESSONS
B.v Tommy Sullivan. Ecbeteh Pro.
In giving instructions at golf I
can run up the guiding principle of
my efforts by saying that at all
times. I try to make the instruction
as simple as possible and also make
it as positive as I can. as distinguish
ed from worcing along negative
lines of advising the player not to
do this or that.
It has always boon my observa
tion. that whenever I advise a pupil
against doing sometiiing in a cer
tain way. he or she seems to retain
a picture of the wrong way. But if
I make no mention of the wrong
thing and simply suggest doing the
right thing, the idea gets over better,
and stays longer with the player.
Suppose we start with the begin
ners. It is my belief, and a practice
I have followed 'for some years,
that persons just taking up golf
make faster and more lasting pro
gress 1 starting at the bottom. By
that. I mean. I prefer to start a
pupil oft with the short clubs
rather than those calling for a full
swing. In the first place, the action
is simpler: it is more arm. wrist
and hand action and less body ac-
i. cr maybe I had better say the
d for the body action to accomo-
e the swingirg is less than for
the full stroke.
This bring true. I have better suc
cess at getting the pupil to grasp
ense of feeling the clubhead in thr
wing. There is no suggestion in his
mind of trying to hit the ball harr‘
On the other hand, if he starts out
ith a driver, for instance, his
natural impulse is to try to hit the
ball as far as he can. and the odds
rerv strong that he will misdirect
his effort, and fail entirely in ac-
luiring any feeling of swinging the
clubhead at the ball.
If allowed to continue his efforts,
he will wind up by developing seri
ous faults in the way of failing to
get his body and arms to work to
gether correctly, and no end of
difficulty will be encounted in get
ting him out of these faults, once he
has acquired them.
I feel that it is always necessarv
to start the player out by teaching
him exactly how to hold the club,
that is the correct position of the
two hands on the shaft. Few per
sons will of their own choice c
into the correct positions of the
hands on the club, because there ii
no other game, m which the blow oi
stroke is made exactly as in golf.

Next. I point out the correct po
sition of the feet in taking the
stance, both as related to each other
and as related to the ball.
With these two points clear in his
mind. I set him to swinging, telling
him to keep in mind at all times!
that he is winging the head of the
dub at the ball. This is the founda
tion of his start. I Keep him swing
ing on the short shots for several
sessions, being careful to keep him
as far as possible from any idea of
trying to hit the ball hard.
Now then, as the course of in
struction moves along, the extent of
the swing is increased step by step
until the full stroke has been reach
ed. By this time it is easy enough
to tell the cause cf any faults the
pupil may have picked up. and it is
then time to begin corrective mens-
