TIIC OUTWARD BOUND SHIP.
BY BISHOr HEUEB.
Asl'ornc long with favouring gale,
And streamers waving bright,
110-. v gaily sweeps the glancing sail
O’er yonder tea of light!
With paiutedsides rha vessel glides
In seeming revelry,
And still we hear the sailorscheer
Around the capstan tree-
Is sorrow theic where all is fail;
Where all is outward gleer
Go, fool; to yonder mariner
And ho shalljpseun liioe.
Upon that deck walks tyrant sway,
Wild as his conquered w ave,
And murmuring liate that must o! oy,—
The Captain and Iris slave.'
And pinching care is lurking there,
And dark ambition's swell,
And some that part with bu; sting heart
From objects loved too well.
And many a grief with gazing fed
On yonder distant shore,
And many a tear iti secret shod
For friends beheld no inoro
Yet sails tho ship with streamers drest
And shouts of seeming glee;
Ood 1 how loves the mortal braast
To hide its misery.
YES. YES, 1 GO.
■ Yes, Yes I go"—he whisper'd soft,
"In freedom’s cause my sword to wield,
Columbia's banner waves aloft,
And glory calls mo to the Held.''
Jhen lu/eiiKiston ho foe imprest,
While war’s rude tempest wildly roared,
Till gushing Irom tho hero s breast
The purple tide in torrents poured
110 fell, aul oil ! nit fancies stole
Through memory » vista, bright and warm
Till • ne ioved image o'er his soul
Came hku an huge! in tlic storm.
But loiid/y swelled <lie bugle » blast.
Ilia hand instinctive grasped tho steel,
Agn n it swelled—but ail wis pas ,
The waino-s breast had ceased to feel.
