perous country—and l cannot believe
that the descendants of our great patriots
and heroes of the revolution will give cur
rency to a doctrine which will so soon
destroy their unparalelled blessing.
Imprisonment for Debt. —Week before
last, a man was discharged from the jail
in New-Bedford, who had been confined
ten months and eighteen days fur a deht
of seven dollars. The expense to the ere
ditor was fifty-tiro dollars and fifty
•rents. "’his- case furtiishcd a fine
comment on our laws in relation to poor
debtors.
It was stated in a recent debate in the
Legislature of New York, bv a renerable
and respectable member, that the I’resi
dei t of the United States was expec
ted to visit Albany during the Sum
mer.
