PRESENTMENTS
Os the Grand Jury of I hard County.

WE the Grand Jurors, sworn, chosen an

of he duties assigned us for the present tern
ben leave to mike the foil.iwinn .resentments:
The first subject and one which has mad s
weighty impression on the finds of the jury, A
one which they feci tlieinselvcs-obligtited to
notice, is the recent unwarrantable and uncon
stitutional interposition on the part of the fvt
preme Court of the United States with the
criminal jurisdiction and laws of this State, they
feel fully justified in saying that this act was
without the pale of the constitutional power
g anted by the people to that tribunal. It is as
ha jury conceives a blow aimed at the sov
reignty ol t ie Elates and was designed alone for
political effoet, but relying on the justice of
our cause and implicitly confiding in the integ
ily ol nor venerable chief magistrate to sus
tain the rights of general government, we con
uder that we h ve nothing serious to apprehend;
it h wever we should be driven to deteud our
sovereignty let our conduct he so directed, that
at every step wo may with confidence appeal t:
the Sovereign Disposer of all eve its for appro
val. We entirely concur with our fellow-jurors
in many of our sister counties in nominating
our Senators and representatives in Congress,
delegates to represent his State in Convention
proposed to he holderi in Raltiuiore in May tusL
In s 'lect a candidate for the Vice Presiueney of
the United States. We cordially approve of
the object ot a convention ofdolcgates to amend
'hr constitution of this State so far ns to reduce
the number of senators arid representatives in
the legislature, and concur in the appointment
of a central committee and ot the individual se
lect! mto compose that, committee, and recom
mend to omr fellow-citizens of this county to
meet at Franklin on Monday the 21st of May,
mst and elect two delegates to represent our
county in said convention to be holden in Mill
edi, eville on rite first Monuey in June next, and
