Silvey prom ised to pay by the 2d of December next, after the date of said note, the said Reuben Simmons, seven hundred and fifty dollars for lot ol land numbet four hundred in the twenty sixth district of Early county, And that afterwards, on the. same day and year aforesaid,The said John 0. To awaken a deeper and more general interest in the subject of Education. “ t 2. To aid itt devising and recommending some more practicable and efficient means of extending the bless ings of education to all classes and conditions of our white population in the South. 3. To discuss all questions relating to Schools ; such as —the qualifications of Teachers ; the principles and modes of organization and discipline; the most approv ed ami successful methods of teaching ; text books ; the co-operation of Parents and Teachers ; the con struction and 1< uniture of school bouses; the compara tive merits of private and public schools, &c. It will thus furnish a suitable medium through which Teachers, and the friends of education generally, may communicate with each otherand with the public upon all topics connected with that subject. The value, not to say necessity, of such a publication must be obvious to every one, more especially as there is no periodical ol this character in the Southern States, so far as we are apprised. And we are particu larly desirous it should line! circulation among our country population, as their condition and wants will meet with special attention in its columns. The paper will be issued in monthly numbers, of sixteen pages each, Royal Octavo, neatly printed and carefully mailed. Trice, One Dollar per annum, in variably in advance.
