A CARD. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” The Agent of the Eagle Manufacturing Company begs to acknowledge the receipt of a letter through the post office on Saturday last, containing ten dollars, with the request that the money should be used for the re lief of the destitute among the operatives of the Eagle Factory, it has been applied as directed. The gener ous giver will accept our thanks. We would embrace this opportunity to express the grateful feelings entertained by the recipients of his bounty among our operatives, for the kindness of the late Mr. James Allen, of this city. This gentleman, a short time before his death, sent an entire beef and a large quantity of vegetables, to be distributed to those who are destitute. TH E season is fast approaching when this valuable manure should be used. The experience of those who have used it proves, (if we believe their agricultural essays, which we do not doubt) that even the cotton planter is doubly, and sometimes trebly paid by its application. Dr. E. T. Taylor’s experiment applied to pine lands near Col umbus, on corn and peas, proves that it much more than doubly paid him hardens are greatly benefited by it, producing vege tables in abundance, and leaving the ground much benefited for the succeeding years.
