From South America.-— The following letter will show
that Earthquakes and Civil Wars are not all the calamities
they have lo provide against in that quarter of the world.
Diseases incident to our own climate, also find their way
there, as will be seen by the .emedy they seek for protection.
Valparaiso, Chili, S. A., July 20, 1819.
lo Dr. J. C. Ayer, &e.,
Dear Sir: We have the pleasure to report cm your ship
| meat of Cherry Pectoral to our house, the whole quantity
! sold, and a pressing demand for more, which must await
I the arrival ot further supplies. Its success in curing diseases
; ofthe lungs, and its consequent notoriety, has excelled any
medicine ever used iu this country. Most of our remedies
here are imported from England, and some of them are
rich and valuable ; but no product of int*tiica! skill from that
or any other quarter has ever won so fully the confidence of
our population as this beautiful preparation of yours.
The article has attracted particular attention among our
most distinguished citizens, from the fact that General Bul
lies, President of the Republic, and the highest officer in
the State, was cured of a severe and dangerous affection of
the lungs, by its use. He allows us to send his name, and
wishes to add the acknowledgments of gratitude for his
relief.
We have the honor to be, sir,
Very respectfully, your ob’t serv’s.,
C ARLOS ALVA Sc CO.
D3” To any inquiring what they shall do for a cough
and cold, we would say, read the following certificate, which
has been signed by one hundred of the first Houses of Drug
giets in this country, to iay before the public their estimate
of a good medicine. They are all men of the first clase
and ofthe highest character, whose experience and business
leads them to know, and this is their opinion :
“W e the undersigned, Wholesale Druggists, having been
for a longtime acquainted with Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral,
hereby certify our belief that it is the best and most effectual
remedy for Pulmonary Complaints ever offered to the
American People. And we would from our knowledge
ol’ its composition, and extensive usefulness, cordially com
mend it to the afflicted as worthy their best confidence, and
with the firm conviction that it will do for their relief all
that medicine can do.”

In addition to the many comforts and amusements afforded his

IMPROVED AND ENLARGED HIS
ACCOMMODATIONS,
iti such a manner as enables him to say that he can accommodate
ail who may favor him with a visit, and render their stay agreea
ble and satisfactory in every respect. It matters not whether the
traveler is in search of health, amusement —either or both—the
Chalybeate is the place at which his wants can be satisfied.
The Waters are tine, “Chalybeate and Sulphury’ and will cure
as mauv diseases as any one person ought to have.
TII E BATHS
are excellent and arranged with a view to comfort. The quantity
of water is not quite as great in volume as that discharged by
Niag ira, but there is plenty and to spare for the ablutions of any
number of Bathers not engaged iu ditching for Gas Works, or
operating in Coal Holes ; and as this is not the class of visitors
who have heretofore found the Chalybeate, the proprietor trust*
that hi s friends will find no scarcity of that necessary element oi’
navigation. While he will have oceans of water for his temper
ance friends, he wiil remember to keep a good supply of Winks
for those who prefer a spirit level to a water course, lest too great
a tendency to Hydropathy might cause them tube regarded as
“soakers.” In a word, the proprietor has been crowded every
season since he has had charge of the Springs; and as he feels
satisfied that all who have called on him will give good report,
send their friends, and call again when they pass this way, be is
determined to leave nothing undone to keep his place “right side
up.”
TO INVALIDS
good fare and good cheer are as necessary as good water, and as
none of thbse things arc particularly disagreeable even to such, as
from their healthfniness, are traveling certificates of the salubrity
of the land they live in, the subscriber feels that he Is safe in say
ing the Chaly beate and its Proprietor are the elements “to drive
dull cure away.”
From Geneva, on the Railroad twenty miles east of Columbus,
Four Horse Coaches run daily to the Springs; from Barnesville
tri-weekly. At West Point, on tho Montgomery Railroad, at
LaGrange, Pleasant Htil and Greenville, comfortable Hacks can
always be had to bring visitors to the Springs. Facilities for
leaving to any point, can be had everyday. The oaiy difficulty
to the traveler is to make up his mind t o go! Call and sve the
undersigned, and it he does not make you comfortable, it will be
because you are harder to pieasethan any one that he has encoun
tered as yet, and that is saying a good deal.
