THE TRI WEEKLY TIMES AND SENTINEL. VOLUME 1J Caitsi Jntfllignxcf. THREE DAYS LATER FROM EUROPE. ARRIVAL OF THE STEAMER Baltic. New Yohk, Jane 2<5. Tho American steamship Baltic h:w arrived at Now York with Liverpool dates to Wednesday, the 15th innt., bring three days later dates thau those brought by the Niagars. The steamship Africa arrived at Liverpool on Monday the 13th instant. Liverpool Cotton Market, The sales of Cotton for tho three days ending on the 14th amounted to 25,000 bales, of which fcpeeutators took 10,000 biles, and exporters 1000 bales, ieaviug 14,- 000 bales for the trade. The demand for Cotton v,a active, and the quotations remained unchanged. In Manchester holders were not pressing their stock on the market. The following are the quotations of the Liverpool mar ket on the 11th, brought by the Niagara; Fair Orleans was quoted at 6 $<L, Middling Orleans bd., Fair Upland 6j and Middling s£d. Political. The English government has announced to both branches of Parliament that the French and English fleets had been jointly dispatched to the Dardanelles and furnished with like instructions—also that tho bc6t understanding existed between France and England. It was not anticipated that any collision between the fleet* an 1 the Russian forces would occur. Kissoloff, the Russian Minister of Justice, had arrived at Paris and was reported to have brought pacific assu rances from the Czar. The funds had consequently re covered. It was thought that Russia would probably temporarily occupy tho frontier of the Danube provinces. A call had been made in Parliament for the corres pondence relative to the imprisonment of negro seamen in South Carolina. The belief was expressed that South Carolina would annul her black laws, if properly pressed so to do. Commodore Vanderbilt had been lionized at Southamp ton, and had taken a large number of citizens on a pleasure enu-e in his steam yacht, the North Star. ’I he strike in Liverpool among the cotton laborers was about settled. Accounts from Paris dated 14th insi., state that on the day previous the Prince of Prufrsia and the Duke of 3axe Coburg passed through Lisle on their way to England. Orders reached Brest on the 10th to arm two stairs fri gates and two s;iiliiig vessels, but nothing was known of their destination. Advices from Constantinople of the 13th state that the Turkish government had handed to tho Ambassadors ot the Fou. Po wers a note explaining the measures taken to main tain the integrity of the Turkish Territory, and declaring firmly that all arrangement of the difficulty on the basis of the Russian ultimatum was out of the question. The French Minister had given to Ra=chid Pacha tormai assurances of support in maintaining the position assumed by his govern ment. Tno British Ministei was about to give similar st oat aneea. Turkey was, in the meantime, fortifying the Bos phorus. TWO WEEKS LATER FROM CALIFORNIA. ‘the Pampero arrived in New Orleans on the 24th June, brining California dates to Ist inet., and 140 pas sengers. Maj Borland, C. S. Minister to Central A ma rl *a, was daily expected at Ban.Juui in the U. S. steamer i Fulton. T<e steamship Northern Light sailed for New York 1 o i the 16th inst., with 4"0 passengers and a large uhioum; of gold. Anew native cotton has been discovered in Cali fornia, the peculiarity of which is, that the hut i.s easily removed from the seed. Lola Montez is acting with great success in the Califor nia theatres. There is no exciting news from the mines, though gen erally the miners are doing well. The Rawhide Ranch, near Table Mountain, and Shaws Fiat are said to be tiie most prolific mines this season ; at the former the mines clear from 5 to 8 dollars per day, at the latter they real- | ir.e from I to 1 50 dollars to the hoar. Sntidw’ieh Inland*. News has been received from the Islands up to 30th April. The last mail from San Frauciseo car ried out 2,000 letters, principally for the whalers on the station, of whom there is a very large fleet going into the Arctic setts through Behrings Straita as soon as the season will admit. The IT. S. and Russian exploring txpedia tions were daily expected to accompany them. The clipper brig Boston reached Honolulu on the 16th April with three tons oi ice and 400 fresh salmon packed in it. The Empeoror of France disclaims any exclusive l ights in the Islands. There only 500 effective muskets in the Islands. The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mr. R. C. Wvlee, recom mends the purchase of 2500 more ; also 500 sabres, 100 pairs pistols, 100 lances, 24 cannon of heavy calibre and 12 iignt pieces. The revenue of the Islands is said to be $250,000. [From the N. O. Delta, Juno 25tn.] Later from Mexico. By the arrival of the Mexican Kehooncr Aguiia Alex cans yesterday, we have received tiles of pa pers from theory of Mexico to the llth instant. The country appears to be in a quiet and settled condition, there having been no new pronunciamen to* or revolutions since the dates heretofore pub tUiied. Tne President of the Republic has issued a de cree re-establishing the old system of direct taxation —repealed shortly after the close of tin* late war— which imposes a tax of two per cent, upou ail pro fessions, * Juries, luxuries, real estate, persi-uai pro perty, merchandise, and industry of every kind. — it is a very oppressive tax, and falls heaviest upon the working classes. Mr. Lavasseur presented his new credentials from Ntpoieou 111. as Ministei of that Republic to Aiexi co. On Wednesday evening, about six o’clock, a terrible ‘ excitement was created in and about the drug store and j residence of Dr. George W. Another Railroad Accident. New York, Juno 24. Another accident occurred on the New Haven Rail- ; road yesterday, by which several persons were killed i and wounded. Particulars not given. Queen Victoria will visit the Lakes of K'ilarney this j summer. Fetal Accident. —We iegret to learn that Powell : Calvert, the foreman of Messrs. Finn & Osmond, wtis instantly killed yesterday afternoon by tho foil inti of a timber, win e engaged in the construct on of ihe Mcßean bridge, oti the Waynesboro’ Rail road. Ho was originally from Chester county, Penn sylvania, and had been about four years in Georgia, lie was a very worthy man, and leaves a wife and four children, who were dependent upon him for a support. Murdf.r in Cincinnati. —Patrick Connell was beat to death in C ncinnati, ou Tuesday night, by a gang of rowdies. Ho was married that night, t:nd the j gang rushed itvo the house and demanded money. He gave them 50 cents, and his wife handed them a similar sum to get iid ot them, but because they refused to give more, they knocked him down, drag ged him out of the house, and bent him in such a manner that he soon d't and. In the exports tie re is an increase as compared with last year of 23,855 bales to Great Britain, 6,537 to France, arid 2.747 to other foreign porta. Middlings are selling at 9 3-4 a 10 cents.
