1 am as grateful as you to the old Keystone for her re
cent noble victory, but my heart still leaps toward the j
Old Dominion for her unparalleled triumph in the day of!
our danger. 1 will not be invidious, but it the favorite son of j
Pennsylvania ought to be re retnbered, be befog away at ‘
the first Court in Europe and enjoying the smile of two j
hemispheres, what does the gallant son of the Old Ddtnin* j
ion deserve, who canto to the rescue, and at great sacrifice j
and with unequalled toil, won the (ight agaiust all odds? — i
Fiat Justicia.
If Mr Buchanan's “absence from the country” gives l
him an advantage because it has removed him beyond the j
sphere of local northern prejudices, Mr. Wise is still his
superior, seeing he was never involved in them. # j
As to statesmanship, Mr. wise’s Congressional career is
sufficiently demonstrative of his ability. He stood for *
months on the floor of the House of Representatives, the ;
ablest debater, the most thoroughly informed man in that j
branch of the national legislature, and sustained the repub- i
lican measures of Mr. Tyler’s administration against the j
strongest combination that ever assailed an American ;
administration. . i
His great letter on Know Nothingisnt settles the question :
of ability. It is the Parodist Lost of American politics, j
There lives not a man on earth who could write, under all j
the circumstances, a more powerful argument. He is to-.j
day, in our statesmanship, what Lord Byron was in Eng
lish poetry—a man of genius, a patriot, a statesman; with
a brain as heavy as Vesuvius, and a heart as full ot fire in
the cause of constitutional liberty. He is the man for the
crisis, and I call on the Southern Domocraey to re-echo the _
shout— -“Henry A. Wise & ’56.” _

What do the Physicians Say ?
Listen to the testimony of an eminent physician in
favor of M’Lane’s Vermifuge, which is now universally
acknowledged to be the best in use , even motnbers ot the
medical faculty (who are so often opposed to the use ot
patent medicines,) cannot withhold their approval ol this
invaluable remedy: ;
Lind, Stark Cos. Ohio, .Tan. 8, 1849. i
I have used l)r M*Latte’s Worm Specific in my private j
practice, and am prepared to say that the unparalleled sue j
cess with which I have prescribed its use. both for children
and adults, induces tne to say the most in its favor of any
specific or patent medicine ever before brought to tny no
tice. The mode of administration, the smallness ot the
dose, and the certainty of its efficacious effects, give it, in
my opinion, a decided advantage over any jolher medicine
of the kind before the public.
Purchaser* will please be caret til to ask lor DR. M LANE’S
CELEBRATED VERMIFUGE, and* take none else. All other
Vermifuges, in comparison, are worthless. Dr. M’Lanes gen

BROWN’S
WASHING MACHINE.
THE Inventor in introducing his new Rotary Washing Ma
chine to the notlcs of the public, does yr with the confl.
i deuce that in all cases where a lair trial is given, they will be,
! as they have been by those who have nsed them, pronounced
i to be the best Machine tor washing now in use. and capable
| of performing more work in far less time and with tar less
j damage to the clothes than auy other Washing Machine now
j made.
He claims for this Machine, that it will cleanse the clothes
i from dirt in 15 to SO ininutesand leave them entirely clean
’ ready for boiling and rinsing.
j Hit will thoroughly rinse clothes in from S lo 10 minutes
It will do an ordinary day's washing in an hour, and does
not near the clothes more thayi one tenth fin much ns token ton sh
ed by hand.
It is adapted to washing from the finest muslins to the coar
sest cloths, Blankets and Carpets.
It can be worked by women or even a 12 year old boy, and
Is bo simple in its construction that almost any one can repair
It—if it should ever need it—and will, with ordinary care
last from five to ten years.
t3T One of the great merits of jthis Machine in. in addi
tion te the facility n washing, is that the. clothes are not worn
out by washing. By the ordinary process of washing, clothes
are mo re injured than by wearing. This advantage, together
with the fact that it will do ten times the work of hand labor,
should induce every Hotel, Boarding House, and family to
have one.
These Machines are sold for Cash only, delivered at onr shop
