Thanksgiving Meal
Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist
Church, Commerce, will host its
annual mid-week Thanksgiving
dinner and service on Wednesday,
Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
The worship service will begin
with guest speaker the Rev.
Dexter Sims of In His Service
Christian Center, Jefferson.

Craft Fair Ahead
At Berea Nov. 10
Berea Baptist Church,
Commerce, will hold an arts and
crafts fair on Saturday, November
10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will benefit the
American Cancer Society Relay
for Life and will be held at the
community center, located on
Hwy. 334.
Homemade baked goods,
crafts, Christmas decorations,
home decor and gift items will
be sold. Homemade vegetable
soup, chili and cornbread will be
available for lunch.
Tickets will be sold for a gro
cery basket to be given away at
a later date.
“Come join us for some great
shopping and fun,” organizers
said .

Berea Collecting
Gift Shoe Boxes
Berea Baptist Church,
Commerce, will collect gift-
filled shoe boxes for Operation
Christmas Child November
12-18.
Boxes may be dropped off at
the community center, located
on Hwy. 334, Monday through
Thursday, November 12-15, from
6 to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday
from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday
from 1 to 4 p.m.
Arrangements can be made to
drop boxes off at a different time
by calling, 706-335-9573.
The mission involves packing a
shoe box with small gift items or
toiletries for children. The boxes
will be collected and shipped
around the world. A standard
size shoe box, or a plastic shoe
container with lid, may be used.
It can be wrapped or not. It is sug
gested that the gifts include such
things as small cars, balls, dolls,
yo-yos, toothbrushes, toothpaste,
socks, combs, washcloths, hard
candy, T-shirts, hair clips or flash
lights.
Those preparing a box are
asked to include a donation of $7
or more to cover the cost of ship
ping and other project costs.

BBQ Fund-raiser
Set At Lebanon
Lebanon United Methodist
Church, Jefferson, will hold a
bar-be-cue plate fund-raiser on
Saturday, November 10, from 11
a.m. to 5 p.m.
Plates will include pork or
chicken, cole slaw, baked beans,
Brunswick stew and bread. A
$6 donation per plate, $3 for a
child’s plate, is requested.
Bar-be-cue pork will be sold
for $9 per pound. Stew will cost
$7.50 for a quart or $4 for a pint.
Bar-be-cue sandwiches will cost
$3 each.

Chorale To Sing
At Tuckston Dec. 2
Tuckston United Methodist
Church, Athens, will present “A
Christmas Card from the Athens
Master Chorale” on Sunday,
December 2, at 4 p.m.
The concert includes the Alfred
Burt Carols, three settings of Ave
Maria (by Arcadelt, Biebl and
Lauridsen) and Daniel Pinkham’s
Christmas Cantata. Admission is
free.

Car Show Set In
Homer Saturday
Ignite Youth Ministries of
Redemption Outreach, Homer,
will host an inaugural car show
Saturday, November 10, from 11
a.m. to 4 p.m. at Banks County
High School, Homer.
Proceeds will enable youth to
attend a youth conference. All
owners of classic cars or hot
rods are encouraged to come
and enter their car, organizers
said .
Prizes will be awarded in sev
eral categories for registered car
entries as well as free give-a-way
prizes for all who attend. Food
will be available at this event.

Fall Bazaar Set At
Homer Presbyterian
Homer Presbyterian Church
will hold its annual fall bazaar
Saturday, November 17, from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.
Items will include Christmas
crafts, gifts and decorations,
homemade cakes and desserts
and a $1 secret Santa shop for
kids.
A bar-be-cue sack lunch will be
sold for $5. Lunches will include
a bar-be-cue pork loin sandwich,
chips, slaw and a drink.

Bush River Plans Pastor Appreciation
Bush River Baptist Church,
Maysville, will celebrate
pastor appreciation day on
Sunday, November 11, at
11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The event will mark the
15 th anniversary of the Rev.
Julius Mack and first lady
Laverne Mack.
The morning service
will feature guest speaker
the Rev. Michael Shields,
Fayetteville, N.C. A native
of Jefferson, Shields gradu
ated from Jefferson High
School in 1978. He is retired
from the military.
The Rev. Doug Jackson,
Gainesville, will be the guest
speaker at the 3 p.m. service. He is the pastor of Fair Field
Baptist Church, Danielsville, and Hillsboro Baptist Church,
High Shoals.
Dinner will be served from 1:30 to 2:55 p.m. in the fellow
ship hall.
