McKinley Elizabeth Smallwood, infant daughter of Amy Ritchie-
Smallwood of Commerce, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007. She
weighed 3 lbs. and 14 ozs. and was 15” long.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include a sister, Victoria
“Tori” Smallwood, Commerce; grandparents, Harry and Toni
Ritchie, Kannapolis, N.C., Margaret Mosley and Glynn Boswell,
Commerce; great-grandparents, Oscar Ritchie, Mooresville, N.C.,
Ruby Pruitt, Commerce; aunts and uncles, Melissa and Preston
Weldon, Ila, Angie R. Harrison and Edmund Ritchie, Kannapolis,
N.C.; cousins, Courtney Gail Weldon, Ila, Anna and Luke Harrison,
Alaina Ritchie, Kannapolis, N.C.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 26, in the chapel of
Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial
was in Grey Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to ‘Make A Wish
Foundation” in McKinley Elizabeth’s name.

Geraldine Collins Dailey, 65,
of Commerce, died Saturday,
November 3,
2007, at her
residence.
She was born
in Habersham
County on
April 10, 1942,
and was the
daughter of
the late Homer
C. and Vesta
Andrews Collins. She was a
homemaker. Mrs. Dailey was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Benny Lee Dailey; a son, Teddy
Lamar Dailey; and brother, Junior
Collins.
Survivors include sons, Jeff
Dailey, Commerce, and Kenneth
Dailey, Winder; daughters,
Tammy Powell, Homer, and
Cynthia Whitehead, Commerce;
brothers, J.C. Collins, Commerce,
Bill Collins, Baldwin, and Troy
Collins, Carnesville; sisters,
Elsie McClure, Maysville, Clara
Minish and Thelma Lynn, both
of Commerce; 10 grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Monday, November 5, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Rev. David Wilkins offi
ciating. Burial was at Riverside
Baptist Church Cemetery in
Maysville.

Susan Phillips
Susan Regina Phillips, 50,
of Maysville, died Saturday,
November 3, 2007, at her resi
dence.
She was born on December 4,
1956, in Barrow County, and was
the daughter of the late Robert
Bobby Brooks and Betty Jean
Carol Ollis. She was a housekee
per. Mrs. Phillips was preceded
in death by a son, Bryon Jason
Phillips; and a brother, Jimmy
Ollis.
Survivors include a son,
Steve Phillips, Maysville; dau
ghter, Makisha Bettie Angel,
Danielsville; and brothers,
Michael Ollis, Atlanta, and David
Ollis, Commerce.

Tuesday, November 6, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Rev. Swayne Carlan
officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill
Cemetery in Commerce.

Alma Howington
Alma Vernice Howington, 89,
of Nicholson, died Saturday,
November 3, 2007, at Family Life
Enrichment Center.
Born in Jackson County on
February 24, 1918, she was the
daughter of the late Griffith
Thomas and Callie Lou Phillips
Carithers. She was a homemaker
and a member of River of Life
Worship Center. Mrs. Howington
was preceded in death by her
husband, H.L. Howington; and a
son, Lawrence Howington.
Survivors include a son,
Douglas Howington, Navarre,
Fla.; daughter, Sandra Atkinson,
Winder; five grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; four step-
grandchildren; and 14 step-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, November 6, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and
Ron Glaze officiating. Burial was
in Jackson Memorial Gardens in
Commerce.

Paulette Dodd
Paulette Seagraves Dodd, 65,
of Bogart, died Tuesday, October
30, 2007, following an extended
illness.
Born in Jackson County on
September 20, 1942, she was the
daughter of the late Hoyt and
Addie Mae Seagraves. She was a
retired University of Georgia sec
retary and a homemaker until she
was placed in a private assisted
living home.
Survivors include her husband,
Don Dodd; children and their
spouses, Dusty and Tara Bone
and Kendall and Nickie Anglin,
all of Ila, Joey and Melanie
Bone, Comer, Frank and Missy
McKinley, Hull, Davey and
Michelle Bone, Danielsville; elev
en grandchildren; and one great
grandchild.
Funeral services were held
Friday, November 2, in the chapel
of Bernstein Funeral Home with
the Rev. Douglas Duncan officiat
ing. Burial was at Liberty Church
Cemetery in Ila.

James Abernathy
James Wilburn Abernathy, 49,
of Gainesville, died Tuesday,
February 20, 2007, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville.
Born on May 8, 1957, in
Habersham County, he was the
son of the late Rev. Wilburn
Abernathy and Mary Elizabeth
Franklin Abernathy. He lived
most of his life in Habersham
and Stephens Counties and was
employed by Wilbanks Lumber
Company for about 27 years. He
was of the holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife,
Lorrie Maney Abernathy,
Gainesville; daughters, Misty
Wood Abernathy, Sautee,
Sonya Abernathy, Toccoa, Beth
Abernathy Roberts, Royston,
Kayla Abernathy, Comer; step
sons, Dusty Maney and Ralley
Maney, both of Batesville; five
grandchildren; two step-grand
children; brother-in-law, Greg
Walters, Homer; sister, Sarah
Walters, Homer; two half-sisters;
and a number of nieces and
nephews.

Kenneth Brewer
The Rev. Kenneth Brewer,
82, of Braselton, died Sunday,
November 4, 2007.
A native of Jackson County, he
was the son of the late Lucius and
Alma Wilson Brewer. A gradu
ate of Mercer University, he had
served as the pastor of several
area churches, including Cedar
Creek Baptist Church, Hoschton
Baptist Church, Walnut Fork
Baptist Church, Auburn Baptist
Church, Zion Baptist Church, and
Garden Heights Baptist Church.
Rev. Brewer was preceded in
death by his wife, Ruth Mauldin
Brewer; son, Larry Brewer; and a
sister, Geneva Phillips.
Survivors include a daughter-in
law, Wren Davis, Dublin, Ohio;
grandchildren, Tyler Brewer,
Brian Davis and Katie Davis, all of
Dublin, Ohio; sisters, Betty Sloan,
Alto, Carol Keith, Hoschton, and
Ann Keith, Winder.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, November 6, in the cha
pel of Carter Funeral Home with
the Revs. Mike Phillips and Ken
Brewer officiating. Burial was in
Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carlton James Hart, 63,
of Jefferson, died Monday,
November 5, 2007.
Born in Franklin County, he
was the son of the late G.C. and
Louise Slocum Hart. He was
retired from the steel construc
tion industry and was Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Janie
Archer Hart, Jefferson; sons and
daughters-in-law, Greg and Andrea
Hart, Nicholson, and Darrell and
Heather Hart, Jefferson; sisters,
Thelma Denton, Commerce,
Virginia Garrett, Elberton, and
Sara Pritchett, Maysville; broth
ers, Gene Hart and Sammy Hart,
both of Commerce; grandchil
dren, Matthew Hart and Tanner
Hart.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, November 7, in the
chapel of Evans Funeral Home
with the Revs. Jesse Mealor and
Terry Smith officiating. Burial
was in Jackson Memorial Park.

Shane Pritchett, Rodney Hart,
Bryon Langford, Daniel Wilson
and Junior David.

Lewis Martin
Lewis Arthur Martin, 84,
of Bowersville, died Friday,
November 2, 2007, at his resi
dence.
Born in Mercer County, W. Va.,
on January 12, 1923, he was the
son of the late John Cleveland
and Lucy Alabama Geautier
Martin. He was a coalminer and
was Baptist. Mr. Martin was pre
ceded in death by three brothers
and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife,
Delpha Esther Farley Martin,
Bowersville; sons, John Martin,
Bowersville, and Lewis Martin,
Commerce; three daughters;
two brothers; 10 grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Monday, November 5, in the
chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home
with the Rev. David Wilson and
Chaplin David Gilleland offici
ating. Entombment was in the
Franklin Memorial Gardens-

Grace Ivie
Grace Black Ivie, 83, of
Commerce, died Tuesday,
November 6, 2007, at Bentley
Assisted Living
in Jefferson.
She was born
on September
22, 1924, in
Clarkesville,
Habersham
County, and was
the daughter of
the late Roy and
Cora Blalock Black and the widow
of John K. Ivie, former owner and
operator of Ivie Funeral Home
in Commerce. She was a flo
rist, having owned and operated
the Commerce Flower Shop for
many years. She was a member
of the Commerce Baptist Church
and was active in the Commerce
Garden Club and the Lost Arts
Club.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Kelly Ivie Woodham,
Winder, Kathy Marshbank,
Greenville, S .C., Kay Buechler,
Crawford; sisters, Eddie Hargis,
W. Palm Beach, Fla., Cora “Buddie”
Clodfelter, Norcross; grandchil
dren, Bob Whitehead, Greenville,
S.C., Joy Smith, Greer, S.C., John
Buechler, Crawford; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, November 8, at 2 p.m.,
in the chapel of Ivie Funeral
Home with the Revs. Carlton
Allen, Shad Lankford and Bob
Whitehead officiating. Burial will
be in the Grey Hill Cemetery.

Williams
Brenna Jane McKinney
Garrison Williams, 26, of Athens,
died Sunday, November 4, 2007.
A native of Bryan, Texas,
she was the daughter of Ervan
and Ginger Hall Garrison of
Athens. She was employed as
an accountant in external affairs
with the University of Georgia
Foundation.
Survivors include her husband,
Steve Williams, Commerce; a son,
Hunter Williams, and daughter,
Kelsey Williams, both of Athens;
and a brother, Ian Hall Garrison,
Athens.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, November 8, in the cha
pel of Bridges Funeral Home with
Dr. Bill Britt officiating. Burial will
be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
