Commerce Police Arrests
Urge To Go Results In Trip To Jackson County Jail
A 20-year-old Hall County
man went to jail last week for
urinating in front of several
witnesses in a Commerce resi
dential area.
Police charged Daniel William
Moses, 20, of 4760 Shirley Drive,
Gainesville, with disorderly con
duct after witnesses told police
that they were sitting on a front
porch when he drove up, got
out of his vehicle, fell down,
then went to the left front of the
vehicle and urinated.
One of the witnesses said he
then went into the house across
the street, turned around, stuck
his head out “and was waving
and laughing at us.”
The incident took place in front
of three women, a 3-year-old girl
and a 6-month-old infant, the
report said.
Others arrested during the past
week include:
• Terry Eugene Gilliam, 44, 435
South Elm Street, Commerce, on
a warrant from Franklin County;
and Becky Elaine Pierce, 40, of
the same address, for obstruc
tion of officers. The report said
officers got a tip that Gilliam,
who had run from a previous
encounter that day, was at home.
When they attempted to enter
the house, one of the officers
said Pierce tried to stop them
from entering. She then became
irate, started cursing and, when
she appeared to be going after
one of the officers, the other
one “took her to the ground,” the
report said.
•Dennis Wayne Daniell, 43,
530 Duncan Road, Commerce,
on a Commerce probation viola
tion warrant after an officer saw
him walking on Martin Luther
King Jr. Boulevard, knew he did
not live there and questioned
him. The report said the suspect
told the officer he was trying to
sell a ring he’d found so he could
get a ride to Jefferson.
•Jonathon Lamar Crain, 19,
458 Hickory Way, Maysville, driv
ing under the influence (DUI) of
intoxicants and failure to main
tain a lane.
•Jonathan Lynn Smith, 23, 429
Kathleen Court, Comer, driv
ing with a suspended license,
speeding, a windshield viola
tion and a probation violation
warrant from Barrow County. It
was also determined that Smith
had a felony warrant from
Arkansas for possession of a
stolen firearm, but Arkansas
officials declined to come pick
him up due to the distance, the
report said.
•Jose Efrain Gonzalez, 45,
1245 Hull Road, Athens, driv
ing without a license and driv
ing with a suspended registra
tion. The report said Gonzalez’s
Social Security card came back
“not on file.”
•Madison Nicole Sullens,
18, 404 Heritage Hills Drive,
Commerce, battery under the
Family Violence Act after she
allegedly scratched her boyfriend
repeatedly in a domestic dispute
over a woman’s phone number
she allegedly found in his wallet.
•Daniel Scott Ashley, 22, 130
Blacks Creek Church Road,
Commerce, driving with a sus
pended license. The charge came
after the vehicle was stopped
because a passenger was not
wearing a seat belt.
•Tonya Dawn Wade, 37, 2350
Ila Road, Commerce, no insur
ance, speeding and driving with
an expired tag. The traffic stop
came after the officer allegedly
clocked her vehicle doing 78 in
a 55-mile-per-hour zone on U.S .
441 northbound.
Commerce Police Incidents
Thieves Hit Ingles Building Site Again
Commerce Police Collecting
Gifts For Mental Health Patients
For the second time in two
weeks burglars carried off large
amounts of copper from the new
Ingles construction site, located
at the intersection of Hwy. 334
and U.S . 441 on the south side of
Commerce.
The Commerce Police Depart
ment reports that someone broke
into two trailers, a storage con
tainer and a freezer and left with
“a large amount” of copper pipe.
The week before, thieves broke
into storage trailers and made off
with approximately $40,000 worth
of copper wire and tubing.
Other incidents investigated
by police during the past week
include:
•theft of a pickup truck and
a .380 pistol from the Madison
Street Extension residence of a
71-year-old white male.
•theft of a motor vehicle from
a Preston Court residence. The
18-year-old white male noticed the
vehicle gone at 10 a.m. and thought
it might be a prank, the report said.
But after calling friends and going
to work, he reported it missing
some 8.5 hours later. The vehicle
was recovered in Dekalb County
three days later when its driver
was arrested on a drug charge.
• forgery at Ray’s Corner
Station, Jefferson Road, where
the owner said he cashed a $500
traveler’s check for a 37-year-old
white female, only to have the
bank return it as counterfeit. The
store has a copy of the suspect’s
driver’s license.
•criminal trespass reported at
a State Street location where a
37-year-old white female said a
former employee of her husband
has been threatening her. The vic
tim said the man, hired to drive
a truck on a trial basis, quit after
two days and neither came in to
work nor called. On one day last
week, he came twice to her house
demanding money, and told his
former employer’s wife that he
would kill her, kill the rest of the
family and burn the house down
if he were not paid.
Commerce will do its part to
make the Christmas season spe
cial for residents of the state’s
mental health and retardation
hospital.
For 49 years, cities across
Georgia have helped patients at
Georgia’s seven regional mental
health and retardation hospitals
enjoy the holidays through the
Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade.
The program, begun by the
Georgia Municipal Association
(GMA) in cooperation with
Gov. Ernest Vandiver, relies on
citizens in each city to donate
gifts for the patients, many of
whom would not receive gifts
or be recognized without the
Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade.
According to hospital staff,
many of the patients have lived
there most of their lives and have
little, if any, support or contact
with friends and family.
Donated items from
Commerce will be delivered to
the Georgia Regional Hospital
Dec. 5. Civic organizations, busi
nesses, churches, schools, scout
troops and individual citizens
are asked to donate gifts for
the event. For more information,
contact Lt. Ken Harmon of the
Commerce Police Department
at 706-335-3200.
