Ernest Hill, 65, of Nicholson,
died Thursday, November 15,
2007, at Athens Regional Medical
Center in Athens.
He was born on March 20,
1942, in Banks muuuuu —
County, and was tHHa ~
the son of the late
Joe E. and Cynthia
Leeola Chambers Hill. He was
employed with Reliance Electric
and a member of Mt. Carmel
Baptist Church. He was a vet
eran, having served in the United
States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife,
Brenda Lynne Wilburn Hill,
Nicholson; a son, Ernie Hill,
Jefferson; daughters, Lee Hill,
Nicholson, and Laura Hill, Homer;
brothers, Ty Hill, Ervin Hill and
Joseph Hill, all of Maysville; a sis
ter, Allie Allen, Commerce; and
two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, November 18, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Revs. Bill Manus and
Swayne Carlan officiating. Burial
was at Webbs Creek Baptist
Church Cemetery in Commerce.

Cloe Ramey
Cloe Elizabeth Crunkleton
Ramey, 91, of Baldwin, died
Wednesday, November 14, 2007,
at Habersham County Medical
Center, following an extended
illness.
She was born in Rabun County
on November 22, 1915, and was
the daughter of the late David
and Aretha Lovell Crunkleton.
She was a homemaker and a
member of Mud Creek Baptist
Church. Mrs. Ramey was preced
ed in death by her stepmother,
Maude Crunkleton; and brothers,
Tom and George Crunkelton.
Survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Rodney and
Kay Ramey, Monroe, and Monty
and Tina Ramey, Baldwin; broth
ers, Bob Crunkleton and Bill
Crunkleton, both of Clayton; sis
ters, Lola Sneed, Clayton, Lois
Scroggs and Laura Deboard,
both of Ashville, N.C., and Lucy
Hudson, Loganville; six grand
children; nine great-grandchil
dren; and three great-great-grand
children.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 17, in the
chapel of McGahee-Griffin &
Stewart Funeral Home with Coart
Ramey officiating. Burial was in
Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Ida Kesler
Ida Loutrelle Emmett Kesler, 91,
of Banks County, died Wednesday,
November 14, 2007, at her resi
dence.
Born on February 14, 1916,
in Banks County, she was the
daughter of the late John B. and
Ruby Guest Emmett. She was
a member of Damascus Baptist
Church. She was retired from
Orbit Manufacturing as an
inspector with 15 years service,
and Blue Bell as an inspector
with 15 years of service. Mrs.
Kesler was preceded in death by
her husband, Guy Kesler; broth
ers, Giles, George, Wilton and
Baxter Emmett; sisters, Gladys
Westmoreland and Betty Wester.
Survivors include daughters,
Brenda Finley, Homer, Bonnie
Lacey, Toccoa; sons, Randy
Kesler, Homer, Roger Kesler,
Kennersville, N.C., Ralph Kesler,
Homer; sister, Johnnie Lee
Dalton, Homer,Novella Simmons,
Baldwin, June Chesser, Hiram,
Beatrice Roberts, Kennesaw; four
grandchildren; and two great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 17, at
Whitfield Funeral Home with the
Revs. Roy Rogers and Harold
Ledford officiating. Burial was
in Damascus Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Gary VanTilburg
Gary E. VanTilburg, 66, St.
Marys, Ohio, died Tuesday,
November 13, 2007, at St. Rita’s
Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.
Born on July 20, 1941, in Mercer
County, he was the son of the
late Paul E. and Ethel J. Behm
VanTilburg. He was retired from
Huffy’s Bicycles after 21 years
of employment. Mr. VanTilburg
was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary E. McDonough
VanTilburg; and a brother, Larry
L. VanTilburg.
Survivors include a daughter
and son-in-law, Amy Joann and
Jeffery DeGeorge, Nicholson;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Gregory E. and Jenny VanTilburg,
St. Marys, Ohio, and Terry L.
and Kim VanTilburg, Florida;
step-brother, Jerry D. Van Tilburg,
Lima, Ohio; six grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 17, at Holy
Rosary Catholic Church in St.
Marys. Ohio, with Father Emil
Shuwey CPPS officiating. The
body was cremated.

Mary Meeks
Mary C. Hurt Meeks, 87, of Mt.
Airy, died Sunday, November 18,
2007, at a private nursing facility,
following an extended illness.
She was born in Jackson County
on November 21, 1919, the daugh
ter of the late Jim and Ollie James
Hurt. She was a homemaker and
member of Camp Creek Baptist
Church. She enjoyed quilting,
embroidering and cooking for
her family, according to loved
ones. Mrs. Meeks was preceded
in death by her husband, Clyde
E. Meeks; a daughter, Mildred
Juanita Meeks; granddaughter,
Carrie Meeks; sisters, Clara
Clark and Beatrice Dill; brothers,
Ernest Hurt and Clyde Hurt.
Survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Gene and
Jodi Meeks, Lula, William and
Sue Meeks and Henry Joe and
Cheryl Meeks, all of Mt. Airy,

Mary Lorene Walton, 83, of
Commerce, died Tuesday,
November 13, 2007, at Edinboro,
Pa.
She was born on October 5,
1924, in Jefferson County, and
was the daughter of the late
Thomas Franklin and Elizabeth
Huggins Henson. She was a
retired elementary school librar
ian and member of Commerce
First Baptist Church. Mrs. Walton
was preceded in death by her
husband, William “Bill” Walton.
Survivors include sons, James
“Jim” Walton, Lawrenceville, and
William “Bill” Walton, Alpharetta;
a daughter, Linda Travis,
Edinboro, Pa.; sister, Bennie Lee
Herring, Statesboro; and seven
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Friday, November 16, at
Commerce First Baptist Church
with the Rev. Ray Austin and
Dr. Carlton Allen officiating.
Burial was in Jackson Memorial
Gardens in Commerce.

Jewell (Syrup) Gaither, Sr., 67,
of Jefferson, died Wednesday,

Nursing Home in Athens.
Born on September 6, 1940,
he was the son of the late John
Henry and Lillian Gaither.

47 years, Dorothy Ann Rucker;

Neal’s Grove Baptist Church in
Commerce, with the Rev. Johnny
F. Smith, pastor, officiating.
Pallbearers were Tommy Morris,
Randy Wilhite, James Roebuck,
Joe Swinney, Lamar Jones and
Orlando Brock. Burial was in the
church cemetery.

James Mason Kesler, 73,
of Nicholson, died Monday,
November 19, 2007, at Athens
Regional Medical Center in
Athens.
He was born on October 20,
1934, in Madison County, and
was the son of the late John
Harrison and Irene Smith Kesler.
He was retired from ABB as a
welder.
Survivors include his wife,
Claudine McClure Kesler,
Nicholson; sons and daughters-
in-law, Mike and Debra Kesler,
Doug and Judy Kesler and
Ronnie and Tammy Kesler, all of
Nicholson, and Donnie and Lisa
Kesler, Commerce; daughters

Virginia Lee Gordon, 74,

Howard Eugene Crews and Cora

Bob Gordon, Colorado; three
