Photo by Brandon Reed By Brandon Reed It was a rough first outing for the East Jackson Lady Eagles basket ball team, as a road trip to North Oconee ended in a 53-28 defeat. The Lady Eagles found them selves trailing early, as they ended the first quarter of play down 18-4. They would continue to trail the rest of the night, as they managed only nine more points in the sec ond quarter, trailing 32-13 going into the half. East Jackson came out swinging in the third quarter, but made up little ground on the Titans, enter ing the fourth quarter down 46-20. The Lady Eagles would score only eight more points before the end of the game. “We did not perform well on the court, but it’s that type of game that is not detrimental to have at the beginning of the season for several reasons,” said girls’ head basketball coach Amy Larimer. “It opens their eyes to the level they have to play at in order to compete and it makes them hun gry to get to practice to work on weaknesses and to the next game to show improvement.” Dynelle Todman led in scoring with eight, followed by Emma Turner and Bridgette Niles, who scored five each. Turner led in rebounds with 15, while Dane Gaillard had six and Todman had five. The team was scheduled to travel to Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time. Friday brings the team’s first home stand against West Forsyth, followed by a Saturday game at East Jackson with their cross-county rivals, the Jackson County Panthers. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to play the first home game of the rivalry,” Larimer said. “Both teams will be ready no matter where it is played. Rivalry games are difficult for the simple fact that they can go either way on any given night.” — Eagle Men Come Close In Season's First Game Cont. from Page 1B games,” Turner said. “We were in a situation to have an opportunity to win Tuesday night, and that’s really all you can ask for. I think all of them right now are important. It’s going to be real important to the community. I just hope we don’t overlook that first home game for Saturday night’s game.” That’s also an important game for the community, as it will be the first match-up between the Eagles and the Panthers of JCCHS for the boys’ basketball program. “That’s going to be a big one for everyone involved,” Turner said. “I’m sure they marked it on their calendar when they get to play us, and I know our kids are excited to play them. That’s the one thing that con cerns me about Friday night is overlooking West Forsyth. Not because of talent, but because of the opportunity to get to play their friends and people that they’ve grown up with in school for the last 10 or 11 years.” Adopt an Angel for Christmas Adopt'An-Angel £007 > Now through December 1D | Regions offices in Jefferson and Commerce Regions Bank Adept-An-Angel trees are up now at the Commerce and Jefferson Iccotrens.
