Then came Saturday, and the long-awaited match-up between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Panthers of Jackson County. East Jackson played hard, keep ing the Lady Panthers within a few points for most of the game, Cont. from Page 1B some out there that had,” Caputo said. “All in all, I didn’t think we wrestled that bad. There are a few things that we watched, and know that we have to work on and get developed.” Caputo says the performances will come with time. “It’s going to take time with wres tling,” he said. “I think our kids understand that. We were happy with our effort, and we were hap py with how we moved around on our feet some. But we’re not satis fied, or even close to being satis fied or content. We have a lot of work to do.” The team was scheduled to face Blessed Trinity and West Hall on but in the end, came out on the losing end, 60-48. Jackson County took the early lead and held it throughout the game, but for three quarters, the Lady Eagles stayed within shouting distance. The Panthers led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, and were up 22-20 at the half. The Panthers moved to a 36-28 lead after three stanzas before putting it out of reach at the end. Turner led the Eagles in scor ing with 13 points, followed by Wilbanks with 12, Pullian with 11, and Dynelle Todman with seven. Pullian had three assists, while Terin Gillespie had two. Wilbanks and Gillespie both re corded two steals, while Turner and Todman both had two each. Turner led the team in rebounds with 13. “I thought we played hard the entire game, but were unable to match their run in the second half,” said East Jackson head basketball coach Amy Larimer. “Coming from halftime they shot an amazing percentage. We made it through their run but we the road Tuesday night. Results of that meet were not immediately available. Prior to Tuesday’s match, Capu to said he expected to encounter a strong program out of Blessed Trinity. We’re hoping to go over there, get better, get some more mat time and experience, and just do the best we can do,” he said. “With wrestling, it really doesn’t matter what our record is. What matters is in February, how well we do at the area tournaments as a team and as a individuals. Our eyes and our focus are on February.” The team will travel to Clarke Central to face the Gladiators and Habersham County Friday. could not match their run with one of our own. It was a hard- fought game on both sides.” Larimer said she feels that the team is improving with every game, both offensively and de fensively. “At the beginning of the sea son, I believe that is the most im portant aspect of molding as a team,” she said. “Once we get to Christmas break and move into the heart of region play, we need to be at the top of our game.” Larimer said she is beginning to see the team leaders emerge. “Emma Turner is stepping up as a leader right now, leading us in rebounding and is a presence to deal with down low,” Larimer said. “She is also a smart player and that shows on the court. She is not the most vocal per son, but she definitely leads by example .” The Lady Eagles were sched uled to face off against the Oglethorpe County Lady Pa triots Tuesday night at home. Results were unavailable by press time. Prior to the game, Larimer said she was excited to see her team take on anoth er region opponent in Ogletho rpe County. “This will give us a chance yet again to see the region competi tion that we will see game after game starting in January,” she said . The Eagles will next face Ste phens County a week from Fri day, as they travel to Toccoa to face the Indians Dec. 14. “I have heard that Stephens County is a strong team,” Lar imer said. “They have a tradition of winning and it does nothing but benefit us to play teams of that caliber.” — Wrestlers Off To A Good Start Brandon Garrett (23) scored 17 points against Jackson County. —Eagles Win 2 Of 3 Games Cont. from Page 1B Jackson Eagles played host Sat urday evening to the Jackson County Panthers. It was a tough game all night, with the score staying close from start to fin ish, but in the end, the Panthers came up with what they needed to defeat the Eagles 63-59. “I knew they’d give us their best shot, and I think they gave us everything that they had,” Turner said. “We were there and had a chance to win, but when you go four-for-15 from the free- throw line, and they go 27-for-39, you’re shooting yourself in the foot. I thought we did that the whole game. “Some silly fouls from a cou ple of our starters got us in some trouble, and we never could real ly get a rotation the way we like to play, as far as sending people in and out, keeping them fresh, and trying to keep pressure on them.” Garrett again led the team in points, with 17. Other scor ers included K. Gilbert with 15, Stevens with 13, Z. Gilbert with eight, Pearson with three, Boswell with two, and Rucker with one. Stevens led in assists with three, while Garrett had the most rebounds with seven. “We’ve got to play smarter,” Turner said. “I don’t think we held our composure at all dur ing the game. I think we let the calls get to us, and I think we let Jackson County get to us. I think they played extremely well.” The Eagles were scheduled to face the Oglethorpe County Pa triots Tuesday evening. Results were unavailable by press time. Turner said before Tuesday night’s game that he was looking for consistency. “Hopefully more consistency, and taking better shots,” he said. “We’re settling too much for the outside three-pointer instead of getting to the basket. Every time we attacked the zone against Jackson County, we got lay-ups. Too many times, we settled for threes. Against Jackson County, we shot 25 three-pointers. We should never shoot more than 12 in a game. We’ve got to do a better job of attacking the bas ket. “Oglethorpe will hopefully come in and hopefully we’ll play a little more consistently, get a win, and build from there.” East Jackson is next scheduled to travel to West Forsyth for a re match with the Wolverines Sat urday.
