'Tis The Season:
Burglars Hit Three
Commerce Residences
Commerce Police Make 3 DU Cases
Burglars hit three local residenc
es last week, according to reports
on file at the Commerce Police
Department.
A 36-year-old white male said
he returned to his Hillcrest Street
residence one evening to find the
rear door open and the lights on.
Someone had tried to pry open
the back door, then broke a glass
pane in the door, reached in and
unlocked it. The thief ransacked
the master bedroom and another
bedroom, stealing a Nintendo
game system, an Xbox game sys
tem, a clothes basket full of auto
stereo components, a new car
stereo system and two sets of
computer game controls.
A Rice Street resident told police
that someone broke a window
to enter her house. The 38-year-
old white female said “numerous”
items were stolen and that neigh
bors told her that an old tan four-
door car occupied by three white
males wearing stocking hats had
been seen in the area.
The other burglary occurred at
a Duncan Circle residence, where
the 65-year-old black female told
police someone went up on her
side porch, cut through duct tape
to enter the side door and stole
“at least” 10 cans of soda.
Other incidents requiring police
attention during the past week
include:
•battery at King Road and
Maysville Road, where a 19-year-
old white male said he had jogged
to his father’s work site at Don’s
Quick Lube, and when his father
was not there began jogging back.
The man spotted a 25-year-old
black male he knew worked at the
same place, and said “hello,” at
which time the black male got out
of his vehicle, said, “You set me
up,” and slugged the jogger in the
jaw, possibly breaking it, accord
ing to the report. The police know
the name of the alleged assailant,
who is not a regular employee of
the business.
• a juvenile complaint at an Ash
Street residence. No information
was available.
•violation of the outdoor water
ban by a 51-year-old white male
on Glencrest Drive. The matter
was turned over to the city’s water
department.
•damage to a vehicle at a
Duncan Circle address where a
39-year-old black male said some
one flattened three tires on his
vehicle and left two scratches on
the vehicle.
•unspecified damages to a vehi
cle at a Crestwood Circle address.
The white female who contacted
police said she had no idea when
the vehicle was damaged.
•entering an auto at a Bolton
Drive address where a 25-year-
old white female said someone
gained entry via the vent window.
There was no report of anything
stolen.
• theft by taking at a Creekdale
Drive address where someone
stole a water meter box from a
rental house.
Officers of the Commerce
Police Department made three
arrests for driving under the
influence (DUI) during the past
week.
Among them was the arrest of a
woman who threatened to sue the
police officer for “mah-rassing”
her by arresting her for the sec
ond time in a matter of days.
The arresting officer said he
pulled over the vehicle because
it had a cardboard tag and tail-
lights that didn’t work and that
when he approached the vehicle
he immediately recognized Anne
Marie Collins, 51, of 825 Old
Hoods Mill Road, Commerce,
from a previous traffic stop dur
ing which he learned that she
had a suspended license.
The woman admitted that she
still had a suspended license, the
report said, but when the officer
attempted to handcuff her, she
began resisting, trying repeatedly
to pull away and accusing him
of “mah-rassing (harassing)” her,
the officer said. The report said
Collins promised to get an attor
ney and sue him because he “had

and failure to move over for a
police vehicle after her vehicle

police officer who had pulled
off the road at a traffic stop on
U.S. 441 near South Elm Street.
The officer immediately went
after Vallas, who turned onto
North Elm and proceeded to
Ingles, pulling into a parking
place. The report said Vallas
denied drinking at first, and that
the odor the officer noted was
from her mouthwash. The report
also said she told him she took
some pain medication because
of a recent surgical procedure,
but when the officer asked the
Banks County Sheriff’s Office
and the Georgia State Patrol.
Rosser was airlifted to Atlanta

Fincher Drive, Commerce, on a
failure to appear warrant.
•James Dwight Everhart III,

“Traffic was pretty heavy at
that time,” said Chapman, who
responded personally to the
scene. “It was a dangerous place
to try and cross. The driver did
not see her.”

charge was levied when Everhart
became irate after an officer
asked to search his vehicle,
