We showed a lot of heart and character and did not get frustrated when things weren’t going well.” The Tigers led 10-9 after one period and were down 20-18 at the half, but rallied in the third quarter to carry a 43-30 lead into the final period. Travaris Glasper led the offense with 16 points, Channing Anderson added 11, Tyler Adams and Brandon Romans scored four apiece, Deon Orsborne and Demetris Bonds contributed four each and Tyler Gamble scored one point. “Travaris Glasper and Channing Anderson played very well, and Deon Orsborne did a good job rebounding,” Brown said. CMS Basketball Coach Sees The Good In Lady Tigers' Loss Basketball coaches like to look for good signs, even when the team loses, and Commerce Middle School Lady Tigers Coach Adam Bagwell saw some in his team’s 29-27 loss to Athens Academy last Thursday. The game, which had been scheduled at Athens, was played in Commerce due to a shift of schedules related to the Spartans var sity football team making an appearance in the Georgia Dome in the Class A football semifinals. The home floor seemed to suit the girls. “Last week, our girls lost to this team by 17 points,” Bagwell pointed out. “Today, we had the lead with under a minute to go but were unable to convert some crucial free throws with under a minute to play.” Bagwell said he was also pleased to see how hard the girls played on defensive and their aggressiveness on offense. The Tigers trailed 12-9 after one period and 19-15 at the half. The entered the third quarter with a 23-19 deficit. Drea Mathis was the leading scorer with nine points, followed by Kayla Burks with six. Allie Morgan, Erica Greene, Taylor Lacey, Jessica Kyle, Hayden McRee and Daniel McCurry each contributed two points. Second-Half Slump Dooms Tigers Against The Spartans After a strong first half against Athens Academy, the Commerce Middle School boys basketball team slumped badly in the sec ond stanza and dropped a 40-18 decision. “We played a great first half and were up by one at halftime,” noted Coach Adam Bagwell. “Jonathan Book had 10 points in the first half.” Then the wheels came off. Up 15-14, the Tigers went cold. They scored only three points the rest of the way and were shut out in the third period. “We got into foul trouble, were unable to make shots, became extremely fatigued, and dug ourselves into an insurmountable hole,” Bagwell said. Book led the offense with 10 points, all of them in the first half. Chase Klugh added five and Dylan Anderson three. Lakeview Sweeps CMS Lakeview Academy swept a pair of games from Commerce Middle School Monday, beating the girls 32-18 and the boys 58-34. Both teams will play at Banks County Saturday with girls’ action starting at 11:00. In the girls’ game, Commerce fell behind early, trailing 8-3 after one period and 18-9 at the half. “We were hurt by sloppy play that resulted in numerous unnecessary turnovers,” said Coach Adam Bagwell. “Danielle McCurry played well. She made some good things happen by taking the ball to the basket.” McCurry led the scoring with eight points. Allie Morgan, Jessika Kyle, Drea Mathis, Hayden McRee and Madison Maddox scored two points each. In the boys’ game, the Tigers kept it close until late in the third quarter. They trailed 19-11 after one period and 26-21 at the half. “We had the lead midway through the third quarter before Lakeview took advantage of some turnovers and were able to retake the lead and put the game out of reach,” Bagwell said. “This is probably the best team we will play this year. They have some big guys, some quick guys and some good shooters.” Chase Klugh put up 11 points for the Tigers. Jamir James and Jonathan Book added seven apiece, Jonathan Leffew contrib uted six and Damian Wood scored three. _ "" ZJ ' it. ■ BRtiT \i A I Coaches Gary Hatfield, left, and Devon Thomas, right, watch Commerce Tiger pitcher Lisa Minish sign a scholarship to play softball for the Brenau University Golden Tigers.
