The Commerce News Page 8B ^December 12, 2007 School News Learn About Christmas Trees Make Stone Soup After reading the book, “Stone Soup,” first grade students in Rhonda Adams’ class at Commerce Primary School created a recipe of their own. Each student brought in a can of vegetables to put together for the class’ soup. To go along with what they were learning, the students also created graphs with the cans and listed the adjectives used in the book. Hayden Hutto and Christian Cook add their cans of vegetables to the class’ pot of soup. Students in Myra Hill’s kindergarten class at Commerce Primary School visited 7G’s Christmas Tree Farm. The students are shown with the tree they chose as their classroom tree. The students learned how the trees were planted from a cutting and how long it takes to grow a Leyland cypress. The students made ornaments and decorated the tree when they returned to school. This is a part of their 12 Days of Christmas Unit.
