PAGE 8A -- THE COMMERCE (GA) NEWS, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2007 Pedestrian Killed On U.S. 441 At Banks Crossing HOMER - A pedestrian was sturck and killed on U.S. 441 at Banks Crossing last Wednesday — the second pedestrian struck in three days. Romona Frye Burns, 45, of Catawba, NC, had been attempt ing to help her husband back his 18-wheeler onto State Route 15/ Hwy. 441. Tony Abron Frye, the driver, had turned onto Industrial Drive, but realizing he had made a wrong turn, was attempting to maneuver back onto 441. Romo- na Frye Burns was in the road way attempting to help direct him when she was struck by a ve hicle traveling north, according to Banks County sheriff Charles Chapman. A Life Flight helicopter was contacted, but EMS officials de cided to transport Burns to BJC Medical Center because of the severity of her injuries. She later died from injuries from the ac cident which threw her approxi mately 50 feet, according to a Georgia State Patrol report. No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle that struck Burns, who was iden tified as a resident of Maysville. The accident was the second in three days in which a pedestrian was struck in that area of Banks Crossing. Two days earlier a wom an was struck while attempting to cross the highway near Wal-Mart, although her injuries were not life threatening. Madison Cleared In Bank Heist Investigation Former Piedmont Judicial Cir cuit District Attorney Tim Madi son has been cleared of any connection to two recent bank robberies in the state. Late last week, GBI and FBI agents searched Madison’s Franklin County home in con nection to the robberies in Thomson and Oconee County. Sources close to the probe said today (Monday) that inves tigation into the matter cleared Madison of any involvement. Bank videos of the robberies showed a man who resembled the former DA. Madison resigned the DA’s seat last June amid a state probe into questionable financial trans actions in his office. He was in dicted by a Banks County grand jury in August on theft charges, along with his wife and a former assistant district attorney. He has pled not guilt to the charg es. All three currently await trial in Banks County. NEED PRINTING?
