Kid's Resource Center Awarded $15,000 Grant Christian Outreach Ministry’s Kid’s Resource Center has been awarded a $15,000 grant by the Jackson EMC Foundation. Designed to serve as a temporary placement shelter for young people, the Kid’s Resource Center will serve Jackson County children and teens who are in state custody because of unsafe home condi tions or who have run away from home. “The Resource Center’s goal will be to work with DFCS and other agencies for a healthy reunifica tion with family members or a placement plan of action that is appropriate for the circumstances,’’ said founder and director Bob Morgan. Focated in Commerce, the 6,000 square foot Kid’s Resource Center will be able to house 12 young people and support staff, and anticipates serving 25-60 young people in its first year of oper ation. Grant funds will be used to purchase a new HYA.C system, kitchen cabinets and appliances for the renovated center. Foundation grants are funded through the Operation Round Up program, which rounds up participating members’ monthly electric to the next dollar amount, with an average contribution of $6 per year. Currently, 90 percent of Jackson EMC’s members participate in the Round Up program. Since its 2005 introduction, the Jackson EMC Foundation has awarded more than $2 mil lion through 169 grants to organizations and 78 grants to individuals. Any individual or charitable organization in the ten counties served by Jackson EMC (Clarke, Banks, Barrow, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Fumpkin, Madison and Oglethorpe) may apply for a Jackson EMC Foundation grant by complet ing a grant application, which can be completed online at www.jacksonemc.com/Guidelines-for- Funding,106.0.html or obtained at local Jackson EMC offices. Applicants need not be members of Jackson EMC. Groundbreaking Set At Apple Valley Apple Valley Baptist Church, Commerce, will hold a ground breaking ceremony on Sunday, January 20. Worship services will begin at 11 p.m., the ground breaking ceremony will begin after the service. Warren Chapel UMC Announces Bible Study Course Warren Chapel United Methodist Church, Commerce, will deliver lessons 5-8 of Alan Stringfellow’s “Walk through the Bible in one year’’ course during the month of January. Fessons 5-8, covering the Book of Numbers through The Book of Ruth, will be shared Wednesday nights beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Elmer Towns, Fiberty University School of Theology and church pastor, Anthony Howell, will lead the class. Mid-week worship and praise services begin at 6:30 p.m. A nursery is available. A multi-cultural and contempo rary worship and praise service is held Sundays at 9 a.m. Sunday School begins at 8 a.m. The church is located at 468 Homer Road.
