William Dwight Kent, 60, of
Maysville, died Tuesday, January
8, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of Virginia Moore
and step-father, Joe Moore, of
Maysville, and the late Thurston
William Kent. He was a member
of Center Grove Baptist Church,
a graduate of Commerce High
School, and an avid race car
driver and fan. Mr. Kent was pre
ceded in death by sons, Kyle and
Chad Kent.
Survivors include a daughter,
Amber Kent, Los Angeles, Calif.;
brother and sister-in-law, Darrell
and Carol Kent, Hoschton; neph
ew and wife, Brandon and Jill
Kent, Hoschton; niece and hus
band, Danielle and Laray Cross;
and a number of other relatives.

Friday, January 11, in the cha
pel of Little Davenport Funeral
home. Burial was in Center Grove
Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Jackson County, she

David Lee Sprinkles, 45, of
Winterville, died Wednesday,
January 9, 2008.
He was the son of Annette
Gipson Sprinkles of Nicholson,
and the late Edward Lee Sprinkes.
He owned operated Sprinkles
Garage and was a member of
Winterville First Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his

Callie Sue Garrison, 86, of
Commerce, died Wednesday,
January 9, 2008, at Hill Haven
Nursing Home in Commerce.
Born in Jackson County, she
was the daughter of the late
Claude and Lucy Lord Shore.
Mrs. Garrison was preceded in
death by her husband, Mack P.
Garrison.
Survivors include sons and
daughter-in-law, Ray Grimsley,
Ball Ground, Charles and Jane
Garrison, Commerce; a brother,
Francis Shore, Commerce; sister,
Sarah Fleming, Hull; eight grand
children; and 10 great-grandchil
dren.

Friday, January 11, at Blacks Creek
Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill
Carpenter officiating. Burial was
in the Grey Hill Cemetery.

Ford Allen
Ford D. Allen, 60, of Danielsville,
died Wednesday, January 9,2008,
at St. Mary’s Medical Center in
Athens.
He was the son of the late
Ben P. and Fannie
Cannon Allen, and
worked in the main- —
tenance depart- “
ment at Commerce High School,
retiring after 31 years. He was
a member of Rogers Baptist
Church, where he served as a
deacon for 38 years. Mr. Allen
was a veteran, having served in
the United States Army during
World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 60
years, Syble Clark Allen; daugh
ter and son-in-law, Mary and
Leon Fitzpatrick, Danielsville;
brother, Wallace Allen, Gastonia,
N.C.; grand-daughter and spouse,
Christy and Mitch Porterfield;
great-grandchildren, Mason and
Connor Porterfield.

Friday, January 11, in the chapel of
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home
with the Revs. Wayne Douglas,
Johnny Thompson, Carlton Peters
and Mike Sarna officiating. Burial
was in Rogers Baptist Church

Peggy Gilmer
Peggy Bryan Gilmer, 76, of
Gainesville, died Monday,
January 7, 2008, at the Bell-Minor
Home in Gainesville, following
an extended illness.
She was born on December
7, 1930, in Jackson County, the
daughter of the late Bunch and
Edna Webb Bryan. She was a
member of Blackshear Place
Baptist Church, and also a mem
ber of the Young at Heart Bible
Study Class. Mrs. Gilmer was
preceded in death by her hus
band, A.C. Gilmer; sisters, Lois
Bryan Burke, Thelma Bryan Kent
and Marion Bryan Gee.
She was a very devoted wife,
mother and grandmother, accord
ing to loved ones.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, Lanier and Carol
Gilmer, Gainesville; daughters
and sons-in-law, Sandra and
James Duncan, Homer, Nancy
and Rodney Middlebrooks,
Snellville, and Tina and Jack
Queen, Gainesville; grandchil

Roger N. Whitehead, of

January 1, 2008.
A native of Jackson County,
he was the son of Eula Jean
Whitehead of Ila and the late
Edward Paul Whitehead and was
a retired truck driver.

Gale Phillips Strickland, 61, of

A native of Franklin County, she
was the daughter of the late Dillard
F. and Mozelle James Phillips.
She was a member of Union
Baptist Church. Mrs. Strickland

sister, Genomie Patrick.

15, 1924, she was the daughter
of the late Albert and Sally Mae
Thompson Eubanks Sr. She was
a homemaker and a member
of the First Baptist Church of
Commerce. Mrs. Seabolt was
preceded in death by a sister,
Francine Eubanks; and brother,
Billy Eubanks.

Miss Bonnie Marie Hensley, 82,
of Lula, died Thursday, January
10, 2008, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville,
following a sudden illness.
Born in Hall County, she was
the daughter of the late John
Wesley and Roxie Ann Brown
Hensley. She was retired from
Swift & Co., and was preced
ed in death by brothers, John
Henry Hensley, Amos Monroe
Hensley and Kinsey Hensley; sis
ters, Augusta Ann Gee and Ethel
Montine Powers.
Survivors include a sister, Mary
Louise Bishop, Gainesville; and
special friends, Billy McCrackin
and Sherri Holcombe, both of
Lula.

Eleanor Reid
Eleanor Nervia Gowder Reid,
81, of Clarkesville, died Friday,
January 11,2008, ather residence,
following an extended illness.
She was born in Banks County
on January 25,1926, the daughter
of the late William Edward and
India Parsons Gowder. She was
a dental assistant, having worked
for Dr. Randy Daniel with 25
years of dedicated service. She
was a member of Calvary Baptist
Church in Morrow, and attended
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mrs.
Reid was preceded in death by
her husband, Luther Coy Reid;
sisters, Dr. Fredna Waters and
Callie Burke; and brothers, Frank
Gowder and Swayne Gowder.
She was an avid Braves base
ball fan, enjoyed watching game
shows, and listening to gospel
music. She was very musically
inclined, having played the piano
for several years, but most impor
tantly, she was an exceptional
grandmother, according to loved
ones.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, David and
Angy Reid, Sautee; sisters,
Edna Elrod and Ethel Tanner,
both of Clarkesville; grandchil
dren, Matthew and Sherry Reid,
Kristena and Coenraad Brand,

Bobby Lee Dowdy
Bobby Lee Dowdy, 63, of
Jefferson, died Monday, January
7, 2008, at his residence, follow
ing an extended illness.
He was born on May 7, 1944,
in Jackson County, the son of
the late John E. Dowdy Sr. and
Sallie Mae Shackleford Dowdy.
He attended public schools
in Jackson County and joined
Summer Hill Baptist Church at
an early age. He was a hardwork
ing man, starting at age 12 and
ending at the age of 62. He was
a skilled multi-tasker, and always
encouraged his children to do the
best they could and work hard at
whatever they chose to do.
Survivors include his wife,
Peggy Bonds Dowdy; daughters
and sons-in-law, Christy Dowdy
and Jeff Swinney, Barbara Dowdy
and Rodney Collins, Kimberly
Dowdy and Kenny Poole, all
of Jefferson; a son and daugh-
