Gaillard six. Gaillard also pulled
down nine rebounds, while Pull
ian had five steals.
“Our defense is greatly im
proved and has and will keep
us in many games," Larimer
commented. “With our defense,
we should win some games the
second time through the subre
gion, which is essential as we
approach the region tourna
ment. We have to improve on
the offensive end of the court,
and it starts with a couple of
leaders stepping up and taking
charge."

Eagle Wrestlers Get Week Off
After beating Fannin County
and Dawson County in matches
Tuesday, Jan. 15, the East Jack-
son Eagles have a week off be
fore their next match.
The Eagles will next travel to
Hiawassee next Tuesday to take
on Fannin County again, along
with Towns County.
The Eagles beat Fannin Coun
ty last Tuesday 48-36.
“Fannin County finished in
the top six in the area duals last
weekend," noted coach Tom
my Palmer. “We didn’t wrestle
against them (at the duals) be
cause they were in a different
half of the brackets, but it was
good to see how we compared
to another team in the top six."
Winning by pins were Charles
Hulett at 103, Justin Griffith at
112, Zak Venable at 119, Shane
Moore at 125, Luis Verduzco at
140, Daniel Kellum at 145 and
Carlos Eguiarte at heavyweight.
Michael Holt picked up a win by
forfeit.
The score was similar against
Dawson County, with the Eagles
besting the Tigers 47-36.
Winning by pins were Hulett
at 103, Venable at 119, Moore
at 125 and Kevin Kesler at 130.
Griffith won by a technical fall
at 112.
Three Eagles won by forfeit —
Verduzco at 140, Josh Kesler at
152 and Michael Watson at 171.
“The two wins on Tuesday can
all be credited to coach Collins.
He runs our practices and has
concentrated on getting our
wrestlers to improve from week
to week," Palmer said.

Eagles 68-Union 59
The Eagles used pressure to
keep Union County off balance
Friday night at home. They led
21-18 after one period, 36-31 at
the half and 55-44 after three
quarters.
“We try to play as much pres
sure as possible," Turner point
ed out, “and to take the other
team out of whatever they want
to do. Union County probably
has the best player in the region
on their team, and I felt like
we did a great job on him. He
got 19 points, but the offense
couldn’t click without him. We
forced a lot of turnovers."
Garrett had a big night for
the Eagles, scoring 19 points
and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Standrick Stephens added 16
points and Brandon Rucker
10. Rucker also had five as
sists.
