Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Commerce, will pres ent a Black History program on Sunday, February 17, at 11 a.m. Numerous skits and events in recognition of Black History Month are planned. Jr. Drive. The Rev. W. R. Brown is pastor. Valentine's Steak Dinner, Program Planned Saturday The women of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Commerce, are hosting a Valentine’s steak dinner and pro gram on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for $8 per person or $15 per couple from Willie Eva Rucker. Awards Recipients Announced At St. Catherine Laboure Peggy Brownlee has been named “Woman of the Year" and An Tran, son of Lisa and Joe Tran, has been named “Youth of the Year" at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Mission, Commerce. All of the parishes in the Archdiocese of Atlanta were invited to select a woman and youth in their parish that exem plified outstanding character and service to their church and community. Both Brownlee and Tran will be honored at a Mass on Saturday, Lebruary 16, at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta. During Lent, Stations of the Cross will be conducted every Lriday at 7 p.m. at St. Catherine’s. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located at 708 State Street. Passover Seder And Meal Planned Commerce Lirst United Methodist Church will hold its annual Passover Seder and meal on Saturday, Lebruary 23, at 6 p.m. in the family life center. The Seder will be led by Marty Seltzer and David Bowen and sponsored by the LUMC Disciple Classes. The mean ing and the importance of the Passover Seder will be explained at the event, according to orga nizers. Questions such as: What is a Passover Seder?, What does it mean?, Why is it important? and Why should I attend?, will be addressed. The Passover Seder and meal is open to everyone and has been attended by people of many different faiths and from many church congregations, according to church leaders. The cost of attendance is $5 per person and reservations must be made by Lebruary 20. Call the church office for reservations at 706-335-4018. The church is located at 54 Cherry Street. 'Sock-lt-To-Us' Event Planned Circle II of Commerce Lirst United Methodist Church is having its annual “Sock-it-to-us" campaign all during the month of Lebruary. The Circle collects socks for children in grades Pre-K through fourth. The socks are for needy children as well as those who have accidents at school (what child can resist jumping in a puddle). Socks or monetary contributions for the sock fund can be dropped off at the church office located at 54 Cherry Street, Commerce. New Faith Plans History Program New Laith and Arendall Methodist Church, Commerce, will celebrate Black History Month with a special service Sunday, Lebruary 17, at 11 a.m. Melissa Shivers, a native of Commerce, will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited. The church is located at 402 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The Rev. Lrank Earls is pastor. Black History Event Planned Feb. 17 Mt. Pleasant CME Church, Commerce, will hold its annual Black History program on Sunday, Lebruary 17, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Eddie Thornton, pastor of Elat Rock CME Church, will be the guest speaker. A dinner will be served in the fel lowship hall following the service. Mayfield To Sing In Commerce Sun. Larry Mayfield will per form a gospel singing Sunday, Lebruary 17, at Peachtree Village, Commerce. The singing will begin at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Nicholson Baptist To Hold Revival Nicholson Baptist Church will host guest evangelist Bill Saye “The Drug King With An Empire’’ for its upcoming reviv al beginning Sunday, Lebruary 24.
