Mt. Calvary Plans Men's Day Feb. 24
Mount Calvary Baptist
Church, Commerce,
invites area men to par
ticipate in its annual Men’s
Day Celebration Sunday,
Feb. 24.
The day starts with a fel
lowship breakfast at 7:30.
The keynote speaker will
be Dr. David Bowen, pas
tor of the First United
Methodist Church of
Commerce.
The speaker for the 11
a.m. service will be the
Rev. Anthony Howell,
pastor of Warren Chapel
United Methodist Church,
Commerce.
Dinner will be served
after the 11 a.m. service.
There will also be a 3:00
p.m. service featuring the
Rev. Rodney Lackey, pas
tor of Antioch Baptist
Church, Gainesville, who
will be accompanied by
his church family.

Passover Seder
And Meal Planned
Commerce First United
Methodist Church will hold its
annual Passover Seder and meal
on Saturday, February 23, at 6
p.m. in the family life center.
The Seder will be led by
Marty Seltzer and David Bowen
and sponsored by the FUMC
Disciple Classes. The mean
ing and the importance of the
Passover Seder will be explained
at the event, according to orga
nizers. Questions such as: What
is a Passover Seder?, What does
it mean?, Why is it important?
and Why should I attend?, will
be addressed.
The Passover Seder and meal is
open to everyone and has been
attended by people of many
different faiths and from many
church congregations, according
to church leaders.
The cost of attendance is $5 per
person and reservations must be
made by February 20. Call the
church office for reservations at

'Sock-lt-To-Us'
Event Planned
Circle II of Commerce First
United Methodist Church is
having its annual “Sock-it-to-us”
campaign all during the month
of February. The Circle collects
socks for children in grades
Pre-K through fourth. The socks
are for needy children as well
as those who have accidents at
school (what child can resist
jumping in a puddle). Socks or
monetary contributions for the
sock fund can be dropped off at
the church office located at 54
Cherry Street, Commerce.
Nicholson Baptist
To Hold Revival
Nicholson Baptist Church
will host guest evangelist Bill
Saye “The Drug King With An
Empire’’ for its upcoming reviv
al beginning Sunday February
24. Services will be held at 11
a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday and
at 7 p.m. Monday February 25,
through Wednesday February
27.
“Come and see how God took
this man from a life of orga
nized crime, drugs, prostitution,
murder, prison and betrayal and
made him into the evangelist he
is today,’’ church leaders said.

Angel Food Orders
Angel Food Ministries is cur
rently accepting orders for its
March food boxes. Orders may
be placed for the March menu
at Lebanon United Methodist
Church, Jefferson, A Call To
Salvation Ministries, Jefferson,
Zion Baptist Church, Braselton,
Antioch United Methodist
Church, Nicholson, and Faith
Baptist Church, Jefferson.
Orders will be taken until
Monday March 3, at most
churches. Boxes will be distrib
uted Saturday March 15.
Organizers said the Angel Food
program is not limited to those
who are experiencing a difficult
financial time, but for anyone
wishing to save money on their
grocery bill. The cost of food box
is $30.
The March menu includes: one
and one-half pounds top sirloin
roast; two pounds boneless, skin
less chicken; one and one-half
pound boneless pork fillet; two
pounds breaded chicken breast
strips; one and one-half pound
boxed lean beef patties; four
pounds chicken leg quarters;
16 ounces all meat bologna; 16
ounces ground turkey; 24 ounces
steak-cut fries; 16 ounces frozen
mixed vegetables; 16 ounces fro
zen green beans; 10 waffles; 32
ounces Borden shelf-stable milk;
16 ounces Blue Bonnet marga
rine; 15 ounces pork and beans;
15 ounces Marie Callender’s
soup; seven and one-half ounces
macaroni and cheese dinner; and
one dessert item.
The first March special — avail
able for an additional $20 —
includes four, eight-ounce thick-
cut pork chops; two and one-half
pounds meaty beef ribs; four,
eight-ounce lean hamburger beef
steaks; and one and one-half
pounds all meat bratwurst sau
sage links.
The second March special —
available for an additional $20 —
includes eight, 10 ounce thick-cut
rib eye steaks.
The third March special -
available for an additional $18
- includes 10 pounds breaded
chicken breast tenders.
Specials are available to any
one who purchases a regular
menu food box.
Food orders may be picked up
on Saturday March 15, and par
ticipants must bring a large box
to receive their food.
Orders may be paid by check,
cash or food stamps. Organizers
ask that orders be placed as soon
as possible.
