Lady Eagles Lose To Athens Academy
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Girls soccer team will have to
wait a little longer for its second win of the sea
son. After a Thursday match with North Oconee
was postponed due to rain, the Lady Eagles lost
to Athens Academy on Monday.
East Jackson’s next opportunity to pick up win
number two will come on Friday as the Lady
Eagles will face Madison County Friday.
“We got waxed by Athens Academy,’’ said head
girls soccer coach Bob Roller. “We will forget
about it and move on.’’
Roller said he expects better results on Friday
when the girls host the Red Raiders.
“Against Madison, we expect to play with more
enthusiasm and hustle,’’ Roller said. “We will
match up better against Madison.’’
Madison comes into the game with a 2-2 record,
having defeated Alcovy and Oglethorpe County
earlier this month.
Game time on Friday, according to school offi
cials, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Eagles Ready For First Season
East Jackson To Host Wolverines Today
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Eagles base
ball team is ready to fire off on
its first season of competition,
as the Eagles hosted Athens
Academy Tuesday afternoon.
Results of that opening game
were unavailable at press
time.
The Athens Academy game
marked the first of three home
games in a row for the Eagles,
who will face West Forsyth
Wednesday, and Athens
Christian on Friday.
Head baseball coach David
Robertson says he feels like
his team is ready for the inau
gural season challenge.
“I really think we are going
to give teams trouble,’’ he said.
“We are just young enough and
hungry enough to upset some
folks.’’
Robertson says while he
doesn’t feel the team will go
26-0, he does feel they will
contend for some wins this
year.
“I have been telling the play
ers since day one, 'just get bet
ter each time you step on the
field’,’’ he said. “We have done
that. I’m very excited to see
what the future holds for this
group of young men.’’
As can be expected, there are
several challenges that a first-
year team like the Eagles faces.
Robertson says getting team
members to see all aspects of
the game is one of them.
“The main challenge has been
getting the players to under
stand that baseball is more of
a mental sport than a physical
one,’’ he said.
Robertson says there are
three important things he
wants his players to remember
when they hit the field.
“Class, discipline, and rou
tine plays,’’ he said. “Play the
game with class. Be disci
plined when it comes to every
aspect of the game and life.
Make the routine plays.’’
First pitch in Wednesday’s
West Forsyth match up is
scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
