Eagles Win Over Rabun County
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Eagles
picked up their first region win
of the year over Rabun County
last week, then dropped a dou
ble header to Dawson County
at home.
That leaves the Eagles with a
2-11 overall record, and 1-7 in
the subregion, where they trail
fifth place Rabun County by
one game.
The Eagles will travel to
Banks County on Thursday for
their second meeting with the
Leopards. The first pitch is
scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Rabun County
The last time the Eagles faced
Rabun County, the Wildcats
won. This time, East Jackson
hoped for a different outcome.
They got it, as the Eagles won
9-6 for their second victory of
the year and their first region
win in East Jackson baseball
history.
Zaine Haley went 3-for-3 at
the plate, with a homer. Nick
Keyros went 2-for-2, while
Evan Williamson and Sam
Williamson both went 2-for-4.
Haley picked up the win,
pitching five innings and strik
ing out five.
“(It was a) total team effort,"
said coach David Robertson.
“Everyone contributed in some
way."
Dawson Double
Coming off of their first
region win, the Eagles hoped
to carry some momentum into
Friday’s double-header with
Dawson County.
In game one, it looked like
they just might do it. After fall
ing behind to the Wildcats, the
Eagles fought back late, scor
ing seven runs in the bottom
of the seventh. But the rally fell
a run short, as Dawson won
12-11.
Sam Williamson went 4-for-4,
with two RBIs. Taylor Boswell
went 4-for-5 with a double,
Evan Williamson went 2-for-3
with a home run, and Haley
had a homer.
CHS Baseball
Taylor Boswell fires the ball back in at a recent game. Boswell
went 4-5 Friday against Dawson County, in game one of a double
header.
“The team never quit,"
Robertson commented.
But the hot bats from the
first game went cold in the sec
ond, as Dawson handed East
Jackson a solid 14-2 loss in five
innings.
Haley had a solo homer for
the Eagles, and John Robinson
and Brandon Rucker each had
hits.
“(We) made a lot of mistakes,"
Robertson said.

Up Next
Next on the schedule for East
Jackson is their second pair
ing with Banks County. The
Leopards are currently 8-5
overall, and 5-2 in the region,
third in sub-region 8-AA north
standings.
At their last meeting, Banks
County beat the Eagles 13-2 at
East Jackson.

Last week was a rough one for
the Commerce Tigers, as they
lost to Athens Academy, Athens
Christian and Hebron Academy.
With the losses, Commerce’s
record drops to 1-7 overall, and
1-4 in the region.
The Tigers will travel to Prince
Avenue Thursday for a 5:30
game.
Athens Academy
Things started out well enough
for the Tigers, as they got on
the board first against Athens
Academy in the top of the sec
ond inning, then picked up a sec
ond run in the top of the third.
But the Spartans answered with
two runs in the bottom of the
third to tie the score, then moved
ahead with a run in the bottom
of the fourth. The Spartans held
Commerce scoreless in the top
of the fifth, then broke loose with
five runs in the bottom of the
inning to build an 8-2 lead.
Athens Academy would
score once more in the sixth.
Commerce picked up three runs
in their last at-bat, but it wasn’t
enough to catch the Spartans,
who won 9-5.
Cohen Cooke and Hunter
Ward both went 3-for-4, and each
scored a run against the Spartans.
T. Green and Ethan Thomas both
went 2-for-4, and each scored a
run. Reuben Haynes, Carl Allen
and Josh Streetman each record
ed a hit.
Haynes took the loss on the
mound, pitching four innings,
while allowing three runs, and
striking out six. The Tiger defense
made three errors.
