Hold A Medieval Feast
After reading the Magic Tree House book,
“The Knight at Dawn,” first grade students in
Rhonda Adams’ class at Commerce Primary
School researched information and prepared
a medieval feast for their class. Pictured with
the guests of honor, Kim Savage, principal, and
Christy Johnson, media specialist, are Darren
Simpson, Paige Baker, Russ Johnson and Ethan
Martinez.
Banker Speaks To Third Graders
Charles Blair, who has been a banker for
over 30 years, spoke to third grade students at
Commerce Elementary School. He talked about
saving and earning interest, wise spending,
giving and investing money, while explaining
simple practices that each student could begin
to apply even at age 8 or 9. Blair also told the stu
dents how money is printed, how checks travel
from a personal account to places of business
and then to the local bank, clearing houses, etc.
The presentation helped the third grade teach
ers culminate their economics unit.
Make 'Rain Sticks'
During a unit study on weather, these stu
dents in Angie Hill and Kelli Miller’s kinder
garten class at Commerce Primary School
made rain sticks after a discussion about
rain. Pictured with their rain sticks are, left
to right, (front) Sarah Herrin, Caleb Coalson,
(back) Alya Sorrow, Conner Knight, Erica
Tyson and Kate Tucker. The rain stick is a per
cussion instrument that makes a gentle, rain
like sound. It is generally considered to have
been invented in Chile and was played in the
belief that it could bring about rainstorms.
